During the Romanesque period, pilgrims began to travel in order to expand their social, economic, and artisan life in Europe, as well as see a world beyond their own. Traveling gave pilgrims the opportunity to see public displays of art, moral teachings, and Christian doctrine. Travel sights included sights like Jerusalem, Rome, and Santiago de Compostela, however local sighs were particularly better favored.
