What do you think about TJ Avery in this novel do you hate him for his
bad deeds or pity him?
TJ is quite a confusing character. On one I had I pity him because of
all the misfortune in his life, through his own fault though. Although
on the other hand I think he is a complacent character, who thinks the
world solely revolves around him. He seems to feel that the world owes
him a living, a living he is not prepared to work for!
I pity TJ because he has never really had any discipline and although
discipline can be harsh. There is one advantage to it, guidance.
Although TJ appears to be taking advantage of his fathers situation
and lack of discipline. I feel that TJ has never really had a role
model whom he can look up to instead it seems to me that he has almost
had to fend for himself. TJ is being played like a fool between RW and
Melvin Simms, he really seems to feel that they like him and doesn’t
really realise what their nasty plan is going to result in. as TJ has
never had a friend he doesn’t really know the meaning of true
friendship. However the readers know that the Simmses are far from
adequate.
I feel that TJ does deserve some pity because it’s not his fault he
has had no discipline it’s nobody’s fault but I do think that if he
was a kind considerate person he would make his parents proud of him
rather than give them grief and stress.
There are only two instances in the book that I feel hatred towards TJ
this is the sacking of mama Logan and the killing and injuring of Mr
and Mrs Jim lee Barnett. The sacking of Mrs Logan's was totally
unfair. This is because it was TJ’s fault he didn’t revise and got

Lucia Raatma’s “The Battles of Lexington and Concord” is important because it describes why the battles were fought and their effects. The American Revolution as a whole was fought to “give colonies freedom from British rule” (Raatma 4) due to unfair taxation from King III of England (Raatma 8). This shows that the driving force of the revolution was the dissatisfaction of the colonists concerning the treatment they received from the king. As a result, the colonists had had enough of the unfairness and tyranny and decided to take matters into their own hands. Several acts of protests, such as the Boston Tea Party, made the British king “furious” (Raatma 10). As a response to these protests, the king sent more soldiers and made stricter laws, which only made colonists even more upset. The back and forth tension between the colonists and the British government was the reason why the Battle of Lexington and Concord occurred, and in turn, why the American Revolution began. The American Revolution caught attention from the entire world, giving the nickname to the first shot fired the “shot heard ‘round the world” (Raatma 5). The 13 colonies who were weak economically and militarily, were taking on Great Britain, a world power with a strong military, a situation which naturally other countries wanted to see. The firing of the first shot at Lexington marked the beginning of a revolution that other countries, such as France and Haiti, would soon attempt to mimic. There were several factors that contributed to the beginning of the revolution, which are significant around the world.

Kek, now in Minnesota, is faced with difficulties of adapting to a new life and of finding his lost mother. He believes that his mother still lives and would soon join him in the new found family. Kek is taken from the airport by a caregiver who takes him to live with his aunt. It is here that Kek meets all that amazed him compared to his home in Sudan, Africa. Home of the brave shows conflicts that Kek faces. He is caught between two worlds, Africa and America. He feels guilty leaving behind his people to live in a distant land especially his mother, who he left in the midst of an attack.
In "Our Secret" by Susan Griffin, the essay uses fragments throughout the essay to symbolize all the topics and people that are involved. The fragments in the essay tie together insides and outsides, human nature, everything affected by past, secrets, cause and effect, and development with the content. These subjects and the fragments are also similar with her life stories and her interviewees that all go together. The author also uses her own memories mixed in with what she heard from the interviewees. Her recollection of her memory is not fully told, but with missing parts and added feelings. Her interviewee's words are told to her and brought to the paper with added information. She tells throughout the book about these recollections.

The book “A Long Way From Chicago” is an adventurous and funny story. The story takes place at Joey Dowdel’s Grandmothers farm house in the country. Leroy and Norma Jean in the short story, “Shiloh” by Bobbie Ann Mason, are a married couple, and they experience a series of events, which shapes them and determines there future. The final setting, Shiloh, works well to highlight the battles of war to the battles between Norma Jean and Leroy. Throughout the story Mason is focused on the persistency of grief, the instability of gender roles, along with the distance and lack of communication separating Leroy and Norma Jean from each other.
