The statement peace is better than revenge is perfect for the book the roll of thunder Hear me cry. There are so many times while you are reading this novel that things could of went completely different if they would of gotten revenge but instead did the right thing to solve problems. Page 116 of Roll Of Thunder Hear Me Cry states “when the words had been spoken i turned and fled crying into the back of the wagon, no day in my life had ever been as cruel as this one”. This quote represents mamas effort to solve problems. By making Cassie apologize even when she wasn't the main problem caused more peace than getting revenge. In chapter 5 -7 of the book Roll Of Thunder Hear Me Cry there is a lot of drama and problems being caused that are causing many opportunities to show why the theme of the book could be peace is better than revenge. In chapter 5 mama and cassie go to strawberry so mama could go to the store but cassie went and when she did that she was asking for problems. They go into a store and she gets kicked out but when she leaves she has a surprise waiting on her lilien jean and her dad were there. He gets told that the coat was to big for him and he looked like a precur. Page 141 of the book states “The coat was to big for me and...and TJ said it made me look like...like a preacher .. and he said since it fit him just right he'd take it off my hands till i grow”. At first papa was really upset and mad that he had given it away. He wanted to make him get it back because he stated “ We don't give away things we have been given” But he ended up telling Cassey to just let him keep it. This resolution caused a lot less stress on the characters because it would of caused drama if he took it back. This is just another example of how they showed peace instead of getting
“ SOmetimes it’s the smallest decisions that can change your life forever.” Keri Russell. In the novel “ The Wednesday Wars” by Gary D Schmidt Hollings father decides that his sister is not going to college. Although Mr.Hoodhood has said no Heather can still make her own decisions according to what she wants in her life, so that she makes the results of her life and changes what she wants to change. In this situation heather has been beaten, but I think that Mr.hoodhood is wrong because you should go to college no matter how old you are. Just because your parent says you can’t do something doesn’t mean you can’t do it as an adult.
Courage is an attribute that someone has when they stand up for what they believe in. In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie shows some acts of courage. Cassie faces some challenges and she handles them in different ways. Cassie shows courage by standing up for Little Man, volunteering to be splashed by the bus for revenge, and standing up to Lillian Jean. I think that she did the right thing when she stood up for Little Man. She was trying to make things right.

Why did the author write this?: Well I think the author wrote this because it gave a lesson on bullying, and how much anger you can get out of it. She wanted to give a lesson on how bullying could make people commit suicide that easy. It even taught me a lesson. I never knew how strongly people felt, and had the guts to risk their own lives!
Revenge is defined as harming someone for the wrong doings that they commit. Revenge is the key ingredient to hundreds of the most loved and action packed movies, books, and shows of today. Because of the fact that there is so much vengeance played out in entertainment media, society encourages revenge as necessary to those seeking retribution. Works of art such as Kill Bill and “Killings” are prime examples of stories that are about revenge.
Revenge is considered part of human nature because it is a survival instinct. Humans are inclined to commit acts of savagery because people are delicate beings. The Oxford English Dictionary defines revenge as, “the action of hurting or harming someone in return for an injury or wrong suffered.” Two good examples involve Montresor from the Cask of Amontillado and the unknown narrator from the Tell- Tale Heart. Montresor murders a fellow wine connoisseur because he insulted Montresor in a manner that could not be exonerated. The narrator of the Tell-Tale Heart enacts revenge by murdering an old man for provoking the narrator’s worst fears in the form of a “ vulture eye”. In both of these works by Edgar Allen Poe, the need for revenge consumed their internal fears and insecurities to perform those cruel acts. In the end though, both of the people discussed showed signs of remorse that in a way formed the character.
The theme of revenge also plays a very important role throughout the short story because many times people want to get back at the ones who hurt them. Revenge was an ongoing subject within the story for many reasons, one being that they stole from their grandmother and it may not necessarily be their grandmother getting revenge on them, but it could be the world around them getting its revenge. “Death was coming for them, but they didn’t know” (Oates 214). Even though nobody knew that their deaths were going to happen, they eventually were going to die because of how mean and powerful they
Falling action is the part of the book where the author ties together the different parts of the climax to conclude the book. In Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, the falling action follows TJ and the other Averys being violently pulled out of their house. After this, the author starts to tie together the climax by sending Cassie to get Papa’s help. When Cassie, Little Man, and Christopher John arrive back at their house, Papa grabs a gun aside from Mama’s compelling debate to not take the gun, and bolts out of the house in hopes of saving Stacey, TJ, and the other Averys. However, Papa decided not to use the gun, and cleverly lit the cotton field on fire instead. Having the cotton field on fire was indubitably a higher
Through this, I come to my conclusion that the desire to enact vengeance is just too great for the Characters to overcome, sometimes even so much that they do not bother making peace with their opponents. The desire of revenge is common amongst everyone, what we call a monster and what we call a human. Think this though, if Grendel, his mother, and the dragon (what we would classify as beasts) have a slightly lower, but generally same, ability to keep peace, then what does that say about the others involved in revenge?
The previous quote relates to the fairy tale “Cinderilla” because Cinderilla shows a sign of maturity. In the text it states “Cinderilla took them up, and told them, as she embraced them, that she forgave them with all her heart, and desired them always to love her” (Perrault 166). The quote demonstrates how Cinderilla forgave her two steps sisters. Although they treated her poorly Cinderilla still managed to forgive them which indicates a sign of maturity as the quote
In the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Chillingworth is baleful. He spends the last years of his life trying to get revenge. Revenge doesn’t do anyone any good. It can cause serious problems for both parties. The person that is seeking revenge can end up getting hurt, but the individual shouldn’t want to hurt someone else in the first place. By seeking revenge on someone that has done something evil, a person becomes evil themselves. People need to kill each other with kindness and try making amends with others, so in the end there will be no evil.
This household had very little to live on, but kept trying and trying and never gave up. In the story Papa may have worked all day twenty-four seven and was frequently gone for long periods of time, but he did it because he loved them and would do anything in order to survive. Papa’s actions motivate people to work hard to achieve a good life for their family. During this book you are also inspired to treat all people equally. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry expresses this by showing you what white people did to blacks and how the Blacks felt about being blamed for everything. This makes you want to treat all people equally because it makes you stop and think about how you would feel if you were in the shoes of the person being blamed most times when they did
Sir Francis Bacon once said “The first wrong breaks the law; revenge of that wrong destroys law itself” (Bacon). Bacon explains this in his essay Of Revenge. If one seeks revenge, one is only going to hurt oneself in the end. Revenge is hurtful and spiteful and one will possibly hurt others through it. One can fix it if one changes ones view on things. Throughout the following, Romeo and Juliet, Biography of Takashi Tanemori, Present Tense, The Blade of Grass in a Dreamless Field, one will see how revenge affects a person and the people around them.
To right a wrong, appeals to most westernized people. The westward movement in the United States depicts harsh times where lawlessness was the norm. Some people felt compelled then to stand up for what was right, as evidenced in the Battle at the OK Corral. Even old shows like Gunsmoke displayed Marshall Dillon the empowered individual to stand up for the law and protect the rights of the townspeople. These examples reflect both revenge and justice all parties involved in a conflict where a wrong needs to be righted. As laws have been established and enforced to provide a sense of order, the need for revenge is no longer justifiable nor soul cleansing because some people thrive on vengeance, some people thrive on old prejudices, and others are hero seekers which does not achieve the desired end result.
