Over the past month, I have been volunteering at Rockstar Canine Rescue & Sanctuary. Rockstar Rescue is an organization that rescues abused, abandoned, and stray dogs and gives them a second chance. The owner, Jamie, is very passionate about dog’s lives and she takes very good care of the dogs she rescues. At the rescue, I had multiple tasks that had to be completed. As the time went on, I became familiar with the job and I would finish quicker while doing quality work. As a volunteer, I had to clean all the kennels, sweep, mop, wash dishes, clean out the tortoise bath, and play with the dogs. Even though it was a lot of work, I enjoyed every minute of it. While volunteering, I realized how the experience would be benefitting my¬¬ career as …show more content…
I learned the different personalities of the dogs, which I will also be doing with my patients. It is important to get to know the patients and learn what they like and dislike. Also, I had to clean the kennels in a very specific way. This was important at the rescue because having a consistent way of cleaning was vital in keeping a fresh odor. Cleaning is also extremely important in the hospital because germs are everywhere. If someone doesn’t do a quality job in sanitizing, a patient can contract an illness. Another task that I excelled at was managing my rounds. Each dog got 25 minutes outside to use the restroom, play, and get some fresh air. While the dog was outside, I had to clean the cage and clean off their toys and dishes. This helps with nursing because I will have to manage my time with patients as well. As a nurse, it will be my duty to go around to all my patients and make sure they are doing okay and check if they need anything. The opportunity that I received from Rockstar Rescue has definitely taught me some …show more content…
The people who have mostly influenced my life have been my roommates. I have three roommates; their names are Skyler, Grace, and Kate. Last semester, we came to GCU as transfer students and got randomly placed together in our dorm. We all clicked right away and since then we have been inseparable. They have made the biggest impact on my life because we have all become so close and we’re always there for one another. We have made so many memories from lake days to day trips up north. Great friends that make impactful memories make college so much more
Mine, however, have yet to influence my life or community. Early in Patel's book, he had expounded on his difficulties finding a place in his junior high and high school years. Like Patel and many others, I also found trouble finding a place in my early education. Past junior high, I spent my time as a freshman in high school bouncing around between friend groups, trying to find people with whom I could relate. It was a rough time that included eating alone at lunch, spending my after-school hours at home alone, and struggling to find people who understood me. Like Patel, I had found a safe-haven of sorts. While he had the YMCA, I had joined my school's show choir. This had given me a place where I could be myself while doing the thing that I loved – singing. That group introduced me to my best friend, and to many other good friends. While they may not be the friend group I settled into, they were a good group of people that gave me friendships when I needed it. In the future, especially my first few weeks of college, it's going to be difficult to find a place where I fit in. However, like Patel, I will find a group where I belong and find the people with whom I relate
“It depends on where people work usually, but the workers come in and check the pets that are in hospital that need additional care. Then in some way, workers have checklists for each hospitalized pet, so if they need medications, bandage changes, etc, workers can then keep track easier. Then workers go on to do medication for any animals that are boarding with the clinic in kennels. After that they check in pets that are coming for surgery or for a drop off exam/treatment.... ... middle of paper ...
So many people have made an impact on society and myself today. It is hard to decide who's influences have been the greatest and who has had the most impact all together. In selecting these unique people, I had to look at my own morals and values and ask myself what I encounter day by day. My everyday life basically consists of money, music, technology, and people, which has lead me to research individuals who made an impact on these aspects.
Julie needs to document everything about their patients, including what she discovers while she is examining and what the owner of the patient has noticed. She also will help her coworkers if they have an animal that will not cooperate or if their schedule is packed, she will help look at patients or run tests on them. There are many advantages and disadvantages to having this work or even just working in a pet hospital. The greatest advantage is saving lives.
I have always been a person that must help, it is difficult for me to sit idle and to do work that is meaningless. I left a safe and secure career in retail when I did not find the meaning the profound affect my work had upon another. A year and a half ago I began that journey to help others through starting my role as a therapeutic staff support. I was able to learn many things, and at the ...
This past year I was hired to work at the veterinarian clinic in Bullard. Within one month I got to help de-claw a cat and watch many surgeries. I learned how to medicate animals without getting bit, give hydrotherapy, and many other things. My title was kennel attendant and I still tried to help and learn up front, in surgery, when I finished the kennel. I always watched for depressed animals especially the ones that went though surgery, because sometimes with out the tender care they needed they would not eat and lose weight.
On my first day in TCU I focused on trying to adjusted and found where the equipment placed and how it worked like IV machine, and where to find medications, treatment supplies, and scavenger hunting, I also give care for three patient assessment and medication administration. In addition, I joined a nurse team meeting and introduced myself to everyone most. This meeting taught me how meeting was mainly about how to make a g...
Being able to take care of people is something that I wanted to do as a job when I was a child. As a child my parents bought me toy doctor kit. My father has been a diabetic since he was a kid and I would always do a check up with my toys and I always said he would be okay. I 've always been interested in healthcare since I was a young boy because I would be able to take care of and help people who are ill. Throughout this past year when my father was in the nursing home and in the hospital, I would learn what was going on with my dad from a medical level and then talking to him he would not be able to understand due to his dementia and I would be able to explain things to him so he could understand. The aspect of everything going on and talking to him about so he would not be more worried or upset made him feel more better and relaxed. Having the ability to do that with the patients I come in contact with each day is very rewarding to do that each and everyday. The more I do that the more I learn for myself and the patients I help take good care of
Another influential incident in my life is going to FCHS. Going to FCHS also caused me to lose some of my friends. Even though I lost those friends, I made many friends who are really nice. I also learned alot about who my real friends are.
My next major influence was my first grade teacher. I remember most of that school year was spent on Martin Luther King Jr. That was the first time I had learned about racism, and what had happened in the past to blacks, amongst others. That school year had a great impact on me and it has changed me ever since to treat all people fairly, no matter what color, sex, intelligence level, social class, etc. This experience has taught me the meaning of democracy, and how to practice it.
Although I am only sixteen years old and in the eleventh grade of high school, many things have influenced me and caused me to be the person that I am today. I hope that these things will continue to help me be a better person and influence me as my life continues. Some of the things that have influenced me have been church, my family, my friends, and school.
It is the search for and providing aid to people who are in danger. The general field for search and rescue are typically determined by the type of terrain the search is conducted and they are classified many specialty sub-fields. (Major, R.H., 1859).
During this training I learned the best way to assist people while walking and getting from sitting to standing. I also learned how to operate transfer equipment such as hoists and slings. I feel that my time at the nursing home inspired me further to pursue a career in nursing. I am also taking part in a HNC Care and Administrations course at college this year which will give me more experience working in the care sector and will also give me a deeper understanding of the academic requirements of nursing. I currently volunteer at the Salvation army charity shop in Kilmarnock. As part of my duties I make sure the shop is tidy, help with the inventory, sort out new items to be put on the shop floor and assist with customers that require help. I also work on the till. I feel that this has given me the change to meet different people and has greatly increased my communication skills as well as giving me the opportunity to volunteer for an organisation that's helping to make a difference to peoples lives throughout the world. I entered the center completely unprepared for the level of education and hard work that the center demanded, but thrived knowing that I was helping heal animals in peril (many of whom were there directly because of human actions). After many hours of feeding, cage cleaning, and handling dangerous patients, I felt as though I had learned as much from the animals as I had my teachers. However, I also found myself frustrated more often than not when I found a limit to my ability to aid animals. There is no worse feeling than knowing that an animal urgently needs care that you are unable to provide. This feeling encouraged me to further my education in animal care, so that I can be the best caretaker possible for animals in
A lot of different things can impact a person’s life in such a way that it is unforgettable. For example, it could be the time you took a hike up a towering mountain and ended up getting peaceful view of the urban cityscape, or even the time you went to your first dreadful sleepover and were trembling with fear. It could even be person or multiple people such as friends, siblings, teachers, and even mentors. Personally, my family has been the people that have ultimately had the most influence on me as an individual. Family can vary from person to person, but for me it is the absolute most important thing I have. The people that have had a profound impact on me is my family; the way that different personalities all come together as one, the way they handle hard situations, and the closeness I have with the, is very inspiring to me.
