Reading a short story such as Richard Wright’s “The Man Who Was Almost A Man” immediately makes you realize this story is many years old, possibly when slavery even existed. First of all, I thought the choice of dialog used in the story is great and really helps you picture the setting and helps us learn somewhat about the characters. I believe Dave and his family all live in the south; the dialog personally sounds like the characters use some sort of southern accent. One of the factors that make it obvious that it is a very old story is the sale of guns. Dave was able to walk in to a store at only the age of 17 and was able to purchase a gun for the cheap price of only two dollars. There was no gun control like there is today in 2016, people
I Am a Man by Steve Estes has been an incredible read; it is a book that I would recommend to anybody who loves to read, and also interested in Civil Rights. Steve Estes does an awesome job with the organization, and details of this book. This book starts in 1968 with black workers in Memphis protesting about low wages, horrible working conditions, and horrible treatments. These workers wanted higher pay to support their families and to establish a union. They started a declaration “I Am a Man!” as their motto. Estes states that the strikers chose this motto because “manhood” was more than what it seemed a long tradition that started from the days of slavery. On (page 4), this strike known as, The Memphis Sanitation Strike shows that one cannot appreciate the fullness of the African American struggles for freedom and showing the relationship and ideas about gender relationships and also identity.
This book talks about the immigrants in the early 1900’s. The book describes how they live their daily lives in New York City. It helped me a lot on Riis photographs and his writings on to better understand the book and the harsh reality this people lived. This comes to show us that life is not that easy and it will cost us work to succeed.

The argument that Brian Philips’s personal article, “Man Up” is an American NFL ritual meant that it’s a heterosexual sport and therefor it's a way of their manhood. If you are not any of those, then you’re considered to be not a man. That’s what NFL is teaching their players to be tough, aggressive, also creates them to be more aggressive toward other teams on the field. It teaches players to suck up serious mental health issues that the players will not seek help for because they are afraid of what the other team may say.

This short story written by Richard Wright is a very well written, and has a very good plot and keeps the reader entertained throughout. From the dialogue to the characters, who inhabit the world crafted by Wright its very intriguing. On the surface it appears to be just a story about childhood disobedience in general, but the overall theme is much deeper than that.
The book that I read was called The Stranger written by Albert Camus. The book is globally famous and was translated to many different languages and texts. The original was called L’Étranger which was written in French in 1942. The plot of this story involved a man in his late twenties or early thirties. The man's name is Meursault. In the beginning of the novel, Meursault is notified that his mother had passed away in the nursing home that he occupied her to. Meursault’s income could not afford to take care of his mother any longer; therefore, he put her in a nursing home. Meursault took off of work and went to the nursing home where she passed away to pay his respects and attend the funeral ceremonies. When he arrived at the nursing home, the funeral director brought Meursault to his mother’s coffin. The director asked if he wanted to see her and he quickly replied to keep the coffin shut. Meursault sat in the room and nearly went through an entire pack of cigarettes while blankly watching his mother’s coffin. At the actual funeral, Meursault shows no signs of normal emotion which would normally be induced at such an event.

In Into the Wild(1997) by Jon Krakauer, Mccandless didn't want to be the person his parents or society expected him to be, he instead wanted the rawness of life itself; and in order to achieve this, he left everything behind and ventured from place to place, eventually ending in Alaska. In chapter 17, Mccandless is compared to naval officer Sir John Franklin because some claim McCandless "lacked a requisite humility" and "possessed insufficient respect for the land." With these claims in consideration, McCandless is a young man who is arrogant because he is reckless and stubborn; however, he is also humble because he is gentle and kind.

In this essay, I will be analyzing four different commercials that focuses on appealing to specific genders.
In Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, the narrator goes through many hardships that make him who he is. He experiences being discouraged and unlucky many different times throughout the novel. However, there are three major times that the narrator goes through these hardships. He is mistreated for his race, especially in the beginning of the novel. He is discouraged by the president of his college when he is expelled. He is also taken down when he finds out that the Brotherhood is not who he thought they were. In Ellison’s Invisible Man, the narrator is degraded and humiliated three major times throughout the novel.
The story takes place years after the Civil War; the main character is Emily an aristocratic woman who has hardships and trouble all throughout her life. Emily’s family believed that they were better than everyone else and he believed that no man was good enough for his daughter. After her father’s death, Emily began to rebel and do things she knew her father would not have allowed. She dates a Northerner day laborer and kills him, so that he could not leave her. Emily is very stuck up and believed she was better than others. The town people put up with Emily out of respect for her family and she got away with more than she should of.
According to C. Wright Mills’ “The Promise”, he feels that an individual’s life and how they act is based on the society and what is happening around them at that time. Mills states in his essay that the sociological imagination helps us understand each individual’s background, lifestyles, and habits and/or traditions. It also allows us to understand the influence society may have on a person and how “historical” events led to it. Based on what he wrote, to understand this “imagination” we must be able to connect a person’s public or personal issues with the events happening within society during that time. According to this a person may act differently depending on their religious beliefs, whether or not they live within the city or the suburbs, etc. For example Mills argues that if a person’s “values” are not threatened then they would be in a state of “well-being” but, if their values were threatened then they would go into some sort of “crisis”. If Mills means “values” as in a person’s “standards of behavior” then this is happening today in our society with the LGBT equal rights movement. Many people feel that being homosexual is not a “standard behavior” and that it is perhaps a sickness. They feel that men should be with women therefor many have gone into a “crisis” and have begun belittling the gay community or bullying them due to the fact that they feel that this is not how an individual should be. Another example is homelessness; a person can be homeless due to a fire destroying their home, being kicked out, being unable to care for themselves due to being mentally ill, developing a heavy drug habit and losing their home due to trying to support the habit, or perhaps some sort of depression. At the time the Invisible Man was published segregation was in full force in many parts of America, making certain scenes of the novel obscene and outlandish (Holland 34). To his peers Ellison was a thinker as well as writer he had the capability of repairing automobiles and electronic devices; “He had a particular passion for high quality audio equipment, and found a hobby in building and customizing stereo systems.” (LitCharts 3) After writing the Invisible Man Ellison found it to be an arduous task to replicate the success of the Invisible Man, “Which immediately was considered a classic”(Brennan). Ellison made it is life mission to write a successful second novel, but he could not compete with the success of the Invisible Man. “When I discover who I and I’ll be free” (Ellison 2). The Invisible man is about a young men journey through society. Ellison keeps the protagonist nameless, throughout the book the young man is often referred to as “IM,” Ellison uses motifs throughout the book to help convey different underlying messages presented to IM. The motifs of power and self-interest, invisibility, and race help establish the stubble to overcome society’s oppression of minority groups.
The Invisible Man by HG Wells Griffin - Wells goes into great detail about the way Griffin (the Invisible Man) looks and acts. He writes about Griffin's bad temper and his evil scheme of stealing money and food to survive as an invisible man. He makes the character, Griffin, realistic because his emotions, like expressing his anger through shouting, are something people are familiar with. Griffin was quick to anger by the taking of drugs and stimulants. What may have begun as a quick temper and impatience turns into violent rage and a wish to commit murder.
