Richard Feynman was an American physicist. He is well known for his work in quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics, and the parton model. Feynman is a Nobel Prize recipient, and even helped with the creation of the atomic bomb. Feynman is truly one of the greatest Physicists of all time.

Feynman was born on May 11th of 1918 in the state of New York. His family was Jewish, and had immigrated from Poland years before. Richard’s father, Melville, heavily influenced his younger years. And at an early age Feynman showed a passion for science. Richard would take apart items such as radios in order to repair them; he even set up a small laboratory within his bedroom. Feynman primarily focused on mathematics and science while in school.

While in high school Feynman studied subjects such as trigonometry and calculus. Feynman initially wished to attended Columbia University, but was denied for multiple reasons, one of which being his religion. While he was not accepted to Columbia University he was admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. And after four years in 1939 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science. Feynman would later go on to Princeton to achieve his doctorate in 1942. During the time Feynman began his work on the Manhattan project.

At the early stages of the Manhattan Project Feynman was persuaded to accept the challenge. He, along with Hans Bethe, were able to create the formula for finding the yield of a fission bomb. A majority of Feynman’s work on the Manhattan Project was his role of administrator of the computation group in his division. Feynman also worked on calculating neutron equations and devising safety procedures. The piece of research that helped him ac...
