Rhonda Rousey and Clara Hughes have been a source of inspiration for kids, it’s not very common in which an entire female team is held in high regard in the media and greatly admired.
The sports industry is notorious for being male dominated, mainly because of the amount of revenue and viewers it attracts. However, the U.S Women’s National Team has grabbed the attention normally reserved for male athletes, and because of this, many young kids are and athletes have looked up to them as amazing role models.
Anna Beth Garretson, a 10-year-old soccer player from Hattiesburg, Mississippi said that her favorite player on the team “would either have to be Alex Morgan or Abby Wambach. They both work really hard and do as much as they can for the team. …show more content…

Alya went on to say how her brother told her that the “boys are so much better at soccer than girls… and [she] hates the fact that boys’ sports get the most attention (Obama Honors..., 2015). President Obama said that the team “launched ‘She Believes’ initiative, encouraging, young fans across the country to believe in themselves, and whether it was through a campaign or on the field, they have inspired millions of girls to dream bigger… and millions of boys to look at girls differently” (The Obama Honors..., 2015). The USWNT not only encouraged kids with their playing but also with their determination to make a difference off the field, as evident with their ‘She Believes’ campaign and dedication to their fans whether it be hosting youth soccer camps, signing autographs and posing for pictures after every game and open practice.
