Various strategies in airline advertisements Nowadays there is a plenty of airlines competing with each other. They choose different strategies in advertising their services in order to attract as many clients as possible. Some companies in their ads make an accent on exceptional features of an airline and its luxury. Such advertisements are more focused on keeping the attention of wealthy and prudent people who value their time and comfort. American Airlines is a great example of a company using this strategy: it proclaimed its exceptionalism in ads with themes like “Something special in the air” and “We’re American Airlines. Both men look at the way how people imagine someone “successful”: they are extremely neat, wear expensive suits and represent some kind of a splendid lifestyle, the one that famous people and wealthy businessmen have. Moreover, there is a lot of text at the bottom of the image, which says about the great achievements of the company and calls people up to “enjoy refinement and exclusivity more often on private First Class jets”. This advertisement uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos. According to the textbook, “ethos” is a method of persuasion in which the “rethor” attempts to persuade the audience by demonstrating his own credibility or authority (81). In this case, the ad shows two famous actors who use this airline, what makes people think that they can get closer to the lifestyle of their favorite celebrities if they choose the same one. What’s more, there is a logos appeal used in the ad. The text states that this airline is the most advanced one and it keeps improving every day. That considers people that American Airlines jets are safe and they don’t have to worry about quality of the flights. That makes this advertisement extremely powerful and effective. However, is it really true that using this American Airlines can make people more successful and prosperous? That’s a moot point. The second ad promotes services
