Amy Miller’s poem, “The World Entire,” was written in response to a viral video of random man saving a rabbit from the flames of a California wildfire. On January 20 this year, HuffPost shared an article which covered not only the rescue video but also the social response to the video and the release of the rabbit saved. The article, “Rabbit Rescued From Fire In Famous Video Released Back To The Wild” was written by the senior trends editor for HuffPost Hilary Hanson. Throughout her entire article, Hanson shares and then explains videos from reputable sources like ABC News, Inside Edition and the California Wildlife Center all related to the main video of the rabbit being saved. The video contains the viral clip of 21-year-old Chad Wadman saving the rabbit and interviews from Wadman, his mother, and the doctor that cared for the rabbit at the California Wildfire Center. Henson then continues to reassure her audience that the “wild rabbit seen in a viral video being saved from a Southern California wildfire has been released back to the wild” and shares the release video. These videos provide the context for Hanson’s article and a strong connection to her audience’s pathos. She then continues to address the opposing side of this news event. Many critics “argued that the rabbit probably didn’t need help and that intervening with wildlife can often make things worse” (Henson). However, Hanson purposely sandwiches this opposition between “a December photo of the rabbit being treated at the California Wildlife Center” taken by Alyssa Schlange and a quote from the California Wildlife Center stating, “experts do generally advise against interfering with wildlife, [but] that in this case, the rabbit was seriously injured and definitely needed medical attention.” Hanson’s whole article is set up to prove that this event was a good deed with good
