This was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. It convinced France to enter the war on the side of the Americans. British General John Burgoyne came up with the plan to capture New York. It was a three-pronged attack that met three British forces at Saratoga. Burgoyne would advance south from Canada and plan to meet at Albany with Generals Barry St. Leger and William Howe. St. Leger was to move east from Lake Ontario; and Howe was to march north from Virginia. This was a brilliant plan, Burgoyne thought, and he hoped to crush the America’s Army. In 1776, before the Battle of Brandywine, in what was almost a year long siege, General George Washington and his army managed to drive the British Army out of Boston. However, General William Howe’s British Troops moved south. General Howe and General Washington’s troops met again in the Battle of Long Island. General Howe was victorious and occupied New York City. In the spring of 1777 the British controlled the cities of Quebec and New York, while the Continental Army controlled Philadelphia and Boston. The British plan was to move General Burgoyne’s troops, in Quebec, south, and General Howe’s troops north. This would give the British control of the Hudson Valley and cut New England off from the remaining colonies. The British hoped that this would destroy the American Dream of Independence. However, British Officials in London failed to give direct orders to General Howe to conduct this mission. General Howe decided to pursue his own agenda and capture the city of Philadelphia.

The colonists had failed to stop the British, but they got reinforcements. when the British got to Concord, there was no equipment to be taken. It was a decoy and the British had been tricked. When they turned around to head back, they were faced with the Colonial army to fight. The colonial army won and the American Revolutionary War had begun.
The Battle of Long Island took place in New York and caused the Americans to suffer a huge loss and end up retreating. Great Britain did more than double the damage to America than America did to them. William Howe, the British general, led the Loyalists in this battle and caused the Patriots to flee from New York and lose their spying fort. Despite their efforts, America lost this battle, but did indeed end up winning the war.
The Americans decided to wait for the British to be only 150 feet away when that came around a lot of the British were dead and wounded. During the War for American Independence, 78 men were commissioned as general officers into the Continental Army by the Continental Congress. Many of these generals commanded troops with differing levels of competence and success. George Washington is typically seen as most important general, however throughout the war a number of his subordinates were able to distinguish themselves amongst their peers. One such general was Nathanael Greene. At the end of the Revolutionary War, Greene would become Washington’s most important subordinate, as demonstrated by Edward Lengel’s assessment of Greene as “the youngest and most capable of Washington’s generals.” Washington and Greene developed a strong, positive and close relationship between themselves. Greene began his life in the military after having been raised a Quaker. With limited access to literature and knowledge in his younger years, Greene became an avid reader which equipped him with the knowledge necessary to excel as a general during the war. Through his devoted study of military operations, firsthand experience and natural abilities as a soldier, Greene became an excellent military commander. He would become known for his successful southern campaign, during which, he loosened British control of the South and helped lead the war to its climax at Yorktown. Throughout the war, he was involved in a number high profile battles where he built a reputation of being an elite strategist who also understood unconventional warfare, logistics, and the importance of military-civil affairs and had a natural political/social acumen. The Battle of Yorktown was a major battle with a huge turning point in the American Revolution. After many years of war between America and Great Britain they were defeated on October of 1781 at Yorktown,Virginia. On October 19 ,1781 General George Washington with the help of french allied General Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau defeated General Lord Cornwallis and his British military. The battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolution and gave American its victory. The battle of Yorktown is considered one of the most important and remarkable battles fought in the American Revolution it did not just give americas its independence but it created a better ideological views.

The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point of The American Revolutionary War. On June 1777, British and Hessian army departed from St. Johns to Fort Ticonderoga at the south end of the lake. The army of 7,000 had separated and started a long march to war. On October 17, 1777, 5,895 Brit and Hessian troops had surrendered. General Burgoyne had lost 86% of his force. The defeat of the British army, the Americans gained great confidence and strongly believed they could win more battles in the near future.

One of the turning points of the war was in 1777, when the British surrendered at Saratoga with over 5,500 troops. After General Horatio Gates and General John Burgoyne came in conflict, but the latter understood that supplies were lackluster, they had to surrender. This battle would result in France entering the loop of the war and siding with the Americans, attacks from out of Canada would be secured and New England isolation would be all prevented because of this battle.

Those actions gave General Washington the advantage to turn the tide of the war.

The British wanted to take control of the Hudson River Valley to cut off New England from the other colonies. So General Burgoyne with 7,700 troops approached Albany, New York, from Canada. On his way, Burgoyne defeated American forces at Fort Ticonderoga. More troops, led by Lieutenant Colonel St. Leger and General Howe were to join him to attack the American troops. Unfortunately for Burgoyne, St. Leger's troops were forced to retreat back to into Canada by Benedict Arnold and his American militia. General Howe's forces were fighting with Washington at the Battle of Brandywine and then the Battle of Germantown, which kept him from joining Burgoyne. General Burgoyne's forces attacked General Gates’ American forces at the Battle of Oriskany and at the Battle of Bennington but were driven back both times. General Burgoyne attacked American for his third time at the Battle of Saratoga. This time Burgoyne and his forces were defeated and General Burgoyne was forced to surrender. The Battle of Saratoga in July and October 1777 was an American victory that was to result in France entering the conflict on behalf of the Americans during the American Revolutionary War.
