An increasing number of people are using their smartphones to browse the internet and expect to do so as easily as they browse the web on a desktop computer in response to which web designers started creating mobile versions of their websites and this has created a challenge in the area of web design and development with the inability to accommodate different designs, new and compatible screen resolutions and devices. Creating a website version for each resolution and new device is not practical. So the concept of Responsive Web Design was established.
Responsive Web Design (RWD) aims at designing user friendly websites which support easy reading and navigation across a wide range of multiple platforms or devices. RWD means creating a website to provide an optimal user experience regardless of the device being used to access it. So we need not create a custom web design for each user. The website should have the technology to automatically switch to accommodate for resolution, image size and other factors as per the user’s preferences. Creating flexible and fluid websites or layouts that adapt to almost any screen to accommodate the ever-altering devices, browsers, screen sizes and orientations is an entire new way of thinking about design, there by eliminating the need for a change in the design and development phase for each new gadget on the market. A Responsive Web Design uses media queries to figure out the resolution of device it's being served on. Small screens and high-resolution displays are starting to become much more common than they used to be, and web designers should take advantage of this.

In the fast pace world we live in today, when potential customers come to our website we want to make sure they return to use the website again. Despite that mobile technology's emergence is recent, there are a lot of factors that have helped in the development and evolution of its user interfaces for the mobile web and mobile applications. While mobile technology can be seen as a new and dominating medium, there are a few problems that many developers and designers have faced. Nonetheless, the design of user interfaces for Mobile Applications and Mobile Websites are ever changing and provide for a lucrative business, and because of that there are many advances in its technology and structure, and the standard for design is constantly on the move.
Website owners have less time than ever to impress and entice potential customers to learn more about their site. While some insist that tech savvy users require different interfaces than casual Internet users, a frustrating design is still a frustrating design. For this paper, I will explore the vast field of mobile technologies and how they have changed not only how businesspeople work, but how customers often use mobile technology to interact with businesses. As someone who is personally very passionate about mobile technology and its continuing growth and development, this topic is a natural fit for me to write about. Mobile technology has proven itself as a valuable asset to businesses of all sizes because of its constant availability and the wide array of functions these modern mobile platforms are capable of handling. There are many types of mobile technologies on the market, and in this paper I will cover a relatively small number of them relative to the other large, diverse set of devices that exist on the marketplace.

Mobile devices are a becoming a big part of people's lives allowing them to used for entertainment, production, communicating and socialising and also education. Mobile computing, whether it is the ubiquitous laptop, smart phone or tablet, has become a necessary part of our lives for both work and play. The hardware and software that provides us with the ability to send, receive and process data while on the go is constantly evolving. The companies that develop the hardware and operating systems that enable us to un-tether ourselves from our desks are constantly pouring billions of dollars into research and development to further enhance the hardware and software used for mobile computing. I intend to provide an overview of the major types of mobile devices that we currently use as well as two of the most important aspects of mobile computing, the operating system and programming tools. Operating systems and development tools, the major factors of innovation, will be discussed in depth as well as the hardware platforms they run on.
