Death can be a tragic situation for most people living on this earth. There will be times where people ignore the word “death” and try to avoid it. But what is our response to someone who is about to die or when we hear the word death? Many times people are very sad and feel some kind of depression from their love ones; especially when someone had died in a recent time. Although there are those who think in a positive mindset, attitude, and personality, which helps them focus to be content. In the books by Edgar Allan Poe and Sandra Cisneors, they describe different character’s reactions towards death and how they respond to death. The word “death” does bring sorrow and pain, although there is always a way to be positive in someone’s death by remembering the good memories. In the story “Los Boxers” by Sandra Cineros, a man who recently lost his wife, remembers the positive memories, and doesn’t mourn over her death: ‘‘Oh boy, she was clean. Everything in the house looked new even though it was old… You betcha. Starched and ironed everything. My socks, my T-shirts. Even ironed los boxers. Yup, drove me crazy with her ice cubes. But now that she’s dead, well that’s just how life is.” (132) This shows how the character reacts upon the death of his wife and accepts that everyone is going to die one day. Though he knew that his own wife had died, he focuses on the positive memories which brings him comfort and security. For most people, their response is mostly towards depression and sadness, but others think positive and peace. My view point upon this essay is that there’s a right and wrong response to somebody’s death which lead to a good or bad consequence. Everyone might or might not experience someone’s death, but when we are aware of it we will become prepare of what’s ahead.. In addition, taking the path of comfort and a positive attitude, can change the way you think and act when death approaches. We don’t understand why things happen in life even if life takes a turn, but then again if we know the truth and the response in the right way, we will be able to have satisfy
