At the most primary period of the whole process of human civilization, I think the human’s beliefs at Shang Dynasty, which is 634 B.C, was very innocent that showed revered and feared the nature and divination. Since it is the very beginning of human development, people at that time had few knowledge of the ordinarily nature activities, and the technology was really poor, so people were unable to explain many nature phenomena.
People at Shang Dynasty relayed on natural factors very much such as the weather conditions affects people’s life a lot. However, the naturally activities could be either disaster or goodness for them. For example, people needed raining to water their grains, but in the meantime, the storm would damage the grain as “Heaven sent down a wind accompanied by great thunder and lighting. The grain was completely flattened. Even great trees were uprooted, and the citizens were very much afraid” (7 Ebrey).
