Essay: Resistance welding
Resistance welding is a method to join two metals that involves the application of force or pressure as well as electricity at a spot where the two metals touch. It is also known as resistance spot welding or resistance seam welding. The electricity creates resistance heat at the point where the two metals touch, creating a joint or bond through melting of the metals. The melting of dissimilar metals creates an alloy that is referred to as a weld nugget. Joule heating generates the welding heat in resistance welding, with the amount of heat proportionate to the amount of resistance in weldment (Song, Zhang, and Bay, S-73). The process involves using resistance welding to join the seams of similar types of metals, usually to make a cylindrical type product. Resistance seam welding is used to make cans, fuel tanks, and steel drums. The approach is most effective when the seams is straight or has a regular curvature arc. It is also capable of producing an air tight and leak proof seal, which is important in certain types of metal containers such as engine mufflers or gasoline tanks (Goover, 723). The flash approach is normally used in butt welding with the two surfaces are brought into contact or close contact and electric current from the electrode is used to heat the surfaces close to the melting point (Goover, 724). When the surfaces reach the appropriate melt temperature, they are forced together the form the weld. Some of the resistance heat can cause arcing or flashing. There is a type of welding that utilizes hydrogen, called Atomic Hydrogen Welding. The welding tool is two tungsten steel rods, acting as electrodes, through which passes an arc of electricity. Hydrogen gas is pump through the arc, and the temperature of the arc disassociates the gas into individual molecules, which absorb an incredible amount of heat. When the gas passes through the arc, it reassembles itself, and burns ordinarily, and using oxygen in the air. This is the hottest type of welding process yet; with a flame of over 7232 degrees F. it was invented in 1926, and was used extensively in Germany during WWII.
Welding is a very important job in today’s society. With new building designs, and bridges to every day metal products, welders are needed to do these tasks. Almost everything that you use every day has some sort of weld to it.
Even though welding has been around for a long time, most of the best inventors were around during the 19th century and have changed the way thing are done today. Being a welder was never in my mind for a career, but that changed when I started taking welding classes at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District. I've been welding for two years and am now enrolled at Bay West Community College for their Early College Program for welding. After I complete the one year program with Bay I will be moving forward with my education. I will be deciding between Ferris State University for Welding Engineering, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for Machine Tool CNC Technician, or The Advanced Welding Institute. After I complete the rest of my schooling I will also be moving forward to become a Weld Inspector. I do not want to be just a welder I want to be higher up and have a better education, so that

I have often found myself in situations where I needed to fix something but could not because it is metal. I believe this might be why I began to show interest in welding. Fire Prevention is a large concern when dealing with red hot metals melting the surrounding areas of application. Section 1910.252 deals with these general requirements for fire prevention and protection, which are responsibilities of welders and cutters, their supervisors, contractors and the management on whose property cutting and welding is to be performed. This includes moving all apparent fire hazards in the vicinity while using guards to confine sparks, heat, and slag in the immediate area. If these basic requirements are not met, the cut of weld is not to be performed. Fire extinguishers shall be provided and maintained in a ready state that is applicable to all types of fires including combustible materials that could be caused at the cut or weld. These should be on hand for the Fire watchers that should be present and trained in the proper usage of the extinguisher. They must also make sure that no combustible material is within 35 feet of the weld/cut and check the status of the current work done watch it for 30 minute following the work done to ensure no fire or problem arose. Before cutting or welding is permitted the area needs to be inspected by the individual responsible for authorizing cutting and welding operations.

Also, welds are used in the construction of buildings and bridges. Various tools are needed to perform proper welding techniques, for example, a person may need clamps, welding rods, a chipping hammer, a torch, glasses, a welding helmet, an apron or non flammable clothing to properly weld metal. In addition, a person may also need a specific type of welder for a certain occasions.

My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
Welding can be traced back to the ancient times. Then in the Iron Age the Egyptians and people in the eastern area learned to weld pieces of iron together. In the middle age blacksmithing was developed. Blacksmithing is when you weld a piece of metal and hammering it but it was in the 19 century that welding was invented as they know it today.
The manufacturing process of steel container or drum which is also known as liquid carrying container involves many processes. Although, there are different sizes of steel containers and different manufacturing process in most steel container manufacturing industries lately. There are also thousands of different steel alloy used in the production of steel containers. Furthermore, steel containers are made of sheet metal by soldering, brazing, spot welding, and seam welding. In addition to this, The Process of making steel containers involves rolling of metal sheet; welding the seam, making 90 degree bent on top and bottom of the container, making number of beads (according to size) and lastly reduce the diameter of one side of the container; fitting of lid to the containers, testing like pressure; coating internal (epoxy phenolic coating or plain) and external (stoving enamel gloss of various colour).
