Why Middle School Students Should Get Recess

Can you imagine sitting in class for 3 hours straight not being able to talk eat or do anything except working? Middle school students need that recess time to take a break from all the work refresh their minds and regain focus for the next class, they need that time to study for a that big test the next class, they also need that time to simply hangout and have a conversation with their peers.

With an increasing demand for higher standardized testing scores, schools are finding themselves in a tough position. The huge question being asked is how do we create more time for students to learn common core. The simple answer is, we don’t! Recess allows a little break to let the information settle and for kids to relax a little. I believe that in middle school, it is a necessity for kids to be involved in extracurricular sports to learn knew skills that they can apply on and off the field. Due to budget cuts, more and more schools have had to cut extracurricular sports. I know that I want sports to come back and so do many kids in middle school. Sports will benefit your health and many other aspects that help you become successful.
Parents should let their kids play football because it will help teach them discipline. Football is a big part of American culture. Why would you deny your kid to be part of a group or a team where he would make so many friends that he will maybe later go on to call brothers. Being on a team will help him feel welcome and he will have people to talk too when he is having problems. Football is a very hard demanding and physical sport.
Children can burn off bottled up energy at recess that they have accumulated while sitting through their teacher’s lessons. Lahey mentions that “studies have found that students who enjoy the benefit of recess are more attentive once they return to class”. This is helpful because the child will be focused on what they are learning instead of fidgeting in their chair. Also, providing breaks to students while they are learning can result in longer attention spans. Recess is a break that recharges the brain and allows elementary students to control their desire to adventure. Young children are easily distracted, so recess regulates this by providing them with their own free time. Students become more self-contained after they return from recess due to their tiredness. Taking such a long break from class can lead to students losing their train of thought. If we lose our train of thought, we will be totally out of it during our next class. This also leads to students wanting to cut. What if someone didn 't feel like staying the three hours and gets exhausted and just leaves? Even if we went the three hours, we would be exhausted and most likely fall asleep in class. I know the counter argument would be why doesn 't the student do some homework or try to understand the lesson he just had during his break. But in reality, which student uses their break for school work? Its called a break for a reason. In high school, we weren’t given breaks. All we had was a half hour to an hour of lunch to relieve ourselves. But it wasn 't too much time to let us lose our train of thought. Due to that, I don 't think our class should be so widely separated. This all leads back to the fact that our professors should take attendance, and make sure their students don 't fall asleep in

On a typical school day, you might hear the words "Ugh, I have so much homework" come out of a middle schooler's mouth. In reality, the problem might not be the amount of homework, but the amount of time a student has after school. School administrators need to understand the importance of having a study hall for middle school students. Middle schoolers should be able to have a study hall because it gives them time to get assignments done, understand their homework better, and not have so much on their plate.
“More than 40 percent of school districts across the country, … have done away with recess or are considering it” (Mulrine). This is a ridiculously high number when considering all the benefits that recess has on young children. Children develop and improve so many basic skills, as well as just simply getting a brain break. Educators, however, believe they need more time in the classroom in order to learn more information. What they need may be just the opposite. According to Dufault (2013), the classes in most universities took 50-90 minutes long which is considerably longer than the attention span of an archetypal student. The attention of students widely differs from others and their attention quality relies on their emotion, the time of day and several other factors. It is believed that the attention span of students ends at the headmost 10-15 minutes of every lecture. But no corroboration was found to uphold the belief.
During this time, they are free to play, hang out, eat lunch, or study for the test. Not for these delinquent students, because this is the only time they would likely cause another disturbance and get involved into another fight. If that ever happens, even it happens a lot, the teachers can pull out their last trick to discipline these delinquents. The delinquents will go to the schoolyard and do a full clean up and make sure that not even a single paper wrap or candy warp is on the ground. It was a little injustice because not only it is waste of time but also cut a lot of times for them to review their schoolwork and homework for the
