Many people never realize what kind of intelligence that have until they actually sit down and focus on test about it. Before I even took the assessments I thought I was less than average, but turns out I really am an average student. I know I have many weaknesses, probably more than I do strengths. A few weaknesses that I have includes; preparation, attendance, and curiosity. I find curiosity a weakness because at times I am curious of what I’m learning about but I never show it because I’m too shy to ask questions or speak aloud. Several strengths I have would be breaking larger problems into smaller problems, applying old knowledge too new, and I’m persistent and careful at seeking into solutions. I was actually surprised to find out that
I know that because I’ve done that for the longest when I was in the 10th grade all the way to 12th grade. With me becoming stressing I found a way to improve myself during that time, now I need to do that once again going through college. I am already stressed and I wasn’t too happy with the results I received on the assessments and I know for a fact I can do 100% better. I want to become an A average and try my hardest to get out of the C Average. It wouldn’t bother me too much if I stay in the B average, but I would still like to try to get out of it as hard as I can. With the new way my job works, we had to take a self-assessment test for our LPN’s at work to see if we would be good at our job. With the one’s whose assessment didn’t turn out so good they had to have a meeting with someone from Americare and get a packet of tips on how to improve themselves. I’m actually glad I actually had to do a self-assessment so I could notice how I really am, and what kind of student and person I am. This essay made me realize, I absolutely need to put my head in the books, and expand my knowledge the best I
I have never thought anything of my type of intelligence until we started discussing two psychologists theories about different types of intelligence in class. According to Sternberg's triarchic theory of intelligence, I feel my profile would fit more in the analytic intelligence and slightly in the practical intelligence. Sternberg's analysis of analytic intelligent people says, "They often are considered to be "smart" students who get good grades, show up in high-level tracks, do well on traditional tests of intelligence and the SAT, and later get admitted to competitive colleges" (Santrock, 2013, p. 300). This statement makes me believe that this fits my profile more than the other intelligence he listed because I was accepted into Our Lady of the Lake college as well as did extremely well on my ACT test. In Gardner's eight frames of mind, I feel as though I identify with several frames such as; verbal, mathematical, bodily kinesthetic, and interpersonal.
Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses is essential to becoming and being a good leader. “Purposeful leaders understand who they are” (Mayfield, 2013). The author of this paper has had previous opportunities to lead, and will reflect on her experiences using the assigned inventory. She will evaluate her skill set and discuss ways she can be an advocate for change with the hospital and community in which she is employed. Lastly, she will identify one personal goal for her leadership growth and explore different avenues for obtaining that goal.
When it came time to meet with Dr. Amy Pardo for an individual meeting, we sat and mapped out the plan for the semester in English Composition II. Before enrolling into English Composition II, it was scared because it might have ended up being like English Composition I where the professor expressed that I did not write very well. After writing a paper for Dr. Pardo and receiving her critique back on it, she said the writing skills were excellent, but work needs to be done to a few things. During the individual meeting, we figured out work need to be done as far as grammar, punctuation, and structure, but the critical thinking and sentence formation are excellent. By evaluating the summary, rhetorical analysis, critique, and research paper, the strengths and weaknesses vary throughout all of the essays.
I was not ready, focused, or dedicated and as a result it reflected in my poor grades. This left me feeling like a failure, and my confidence was low in my abilities. It would take years before I would I feel confident enough in my abilities to return to college. As years passed I became focused, goal oriented, confident, and realized the path I wanted to pursue. It was a constant gnawing feeling to return to college. Once I felt confident in my abilities to succeed in college, I enrolled. As a result my grades improved to a 3.27 GPA. My academic strengths are my ability to focus, endure, prioritize and study. My deficiencies would be time management. I have set aside a time frame for study time this is what helped me to succeed in my undergrad program.
The thoughts running around in my head were telling me that this essay might be a little better than the pre-assessment. After all, Mrs. Robinson had proclaimed she graded harder to teach us, but there were still doubts in my head. I thought to would write something personal, since that was what I was used to and it worked well for me. Upsettingly, I spent time on this essay but didn’t use all the resources to my benefit. I didn’t read it aloud after being finished and go back and check to see what I wrote made sense. Figured that out later

I truly believed the intelligence was something you were gifted with and I knew that I was definitely not one of them. I watched my friends get good grades and become successful in test taking. I couldn 't figure out why I 'm not successful, why it was so hard or why I couldn 't just get the answer. It wasn’t till my eleventh and twelfth grade language arts teacher I find a way to change my circumstance. In that year of my high school career my language arts teacher saw me struggling on a writing prompt that was assigned. He asked me what was going on. I told him that I 'm not in any way good at writing papers. Your going to have to make a draft and this draft is going to suck and that’s the point he said. When you go back to make changes it will become a good paper. It 's okay to fail as long as you learn from them and don’t let them take over. I wrote that paper for his class and received a B. "Very few writers really know what they are doing until they 've done it" (Lamott 5). Although it was to late in the year to fix my junior year of high school I could make my senior year academically great. My mom, my teachers and my senior year of high school are the reasons why my fixed mindset started to become a growth mindset. Have the same language arts teacher for both of the lasts years of my high school career. Have the same teacher knowing your challenges and being able to push in
Strengths can be defined in multiple ways. One definition of strength is, “the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor” (dictionary.com). Strength can also be defined as the mental power, force, moral power or courage of an individual. Both of these definition describe strengths as being something positive, almost like a driving force. In the healthcare field it is important to know your personal strengths just as it is to know your weaknesses. As healthcare providers we have to know what we are good at so that way when caring for patients we can do it with a sense of confidence. Knowing your own strengths is also important in the leadership world of healthcare. Every good leader knows what their advantage is when taking charge of their unit or facility. Using the strength finder 2.0 I was able to identify my strengths as, communication, self-assurance, focus, command, and futuristic.
“ It’s not that I’m dumb. I only did bad on the test because I had three test that week and two paper due. I wasn’t able to study as much as I normally would for the test.” Next, I added a new though. I learned that the average on the test was a 70%, so in reality, I had received a fairly average grade in comparison to the rest of the class. Although these two methods made me feel somewhat better, they didn’t change the fact that I had got a 69% on the test. My final step was a change in behavior. I came to realize that to do better on the next test I would have to make some adjustments to how I approach organic chemistry. This is what motivated me to find a tutor. However, this action in itself created another form of dissonance because in my mind a person who does well in school does not need a tutor. After receiving a much better grade on the second organic chemistry test thanks to the help of my tutor, I made a final change to my thoughts. I am still a person who cares about and does well in school, and having a tutor doesn’t mean I’m not intelligent it is simply another way of helping me to reach my goals. Coming to this conclusion helped me to remove the last of the dissonance I had been
Do well on my third pathophysiology exam on Friday. I plan to do this by studying at least 2 hours each day, studying with a partner, and on Wednesday I am going to meet with my tutor.
I believe that I have numerous skills that have allowed me to excel in school but I have my flaws, as does everyone. I have been told many times, “It’s not how smart you are, but how you’re smart.” I find this to be quite true, but I don’t believe it to mean that you cannot learn to become smarter in different areas. I have hopes that the IB/ALP program will do many things to help me further succeed beyond what I could expect, by helping me achieve my goals, work towards ameliorating in my weaknesses, heighten my potential, and open new possibilities for me that I couldn’t believe possible. The IB/ALP Program is a good fit for me as I am a thinker and as I am open-minded as per how they are defined. Though, as an area for improvement, I believe that I must work towards becoming a risk-taker to allow myself to increase my calibre.
To begin, I am going to write about my weaknesses and how they transitioned into strengths. First, I remember after each assignment in class was introduced I
When it comes to my schoolwork, I tend to be extremely conscientious, diligent, and ambitious. A few of my academic strengths are my organizational skills and ability to think critically. A weakness that I have is test taking; while taking tests I become nervous, and forget the information. I become upset with myself if I earn a C on a test or in a class. Then I consider what I could have done differently to receive a higher grade and apply it to future assignments. I react this way when it comes to my studies, because my dad used to get upset with us if we received anything below a B in specific subjects. For example, if we got a C in math my dad would say, “You don’t know how to count? I guess I will stop giving you money since you cannot count it.” He would also reward us for being able to count and getting good grades. When I was a little girl, he used to put out money and give us 30 seconds to count it, if we counted
This intelligence helps me better understand myself because I am pretty good at math and it is something that I typically enjoy. This intelligence also says that I am a very structured person and I like organization. I like to know what is going on and how everything is going to work before I start anything. A teacher that I am very close with is very structured and that is why we get along so well with each other. This intelligence affects me negatively because I do not like things that or assignments that are relatively broad or unspecific. I am a person who does not like to make mistake so I like instructions and criteria to be thorough and well explained. The classroom has definitely cultivated this intelligence because with almost everything there are instructions and examples. I am getting into a part of my life where people are not giving me step-by-step directions or instructions and I have to learn to be more independent. From the bestcareermatch.com chart of careers that correlate with the multiple intelligences there are 3 careers that I would happily pursue. Being an accountant, a detective, or a lawyer are the careers that would appeals to me and two of them are options that I have already considered. Being a lawyer is my top career choice right not and I have also considered being an accountant
During my first weeks of college I was given the task of taking a quiz that helps me determines my strengths that will help succeed in my college career and beyond. The online quiz assesses you talents and strengths with which you can develop by reading the book ,Strengths Quest, which explains your abilities. The quiz takes thirty minutes to ask about various topics that determine your top five strengths or “themes of talent”. When I first read the synapsis on the back of the book I was skeptical about the accuracy of the quiz’s ability to determine what I’m like based on one hundred and thirty questions. Once I finished the test I still questioned the truth behind the results, until I read the book. I believe that Strengths Quest is a helpful tool that will help me through my college career. The test determined that my personal talents were: adaptability, learner, input, relator, and intellection. Each attribute is presented in the order of the strongest to the weakest. I feel as though the strengths are accurate because I see the similarities between them and my personality.
