In the NBA, Larry Bird is one of the greatest players in history, he showed that a kid from a small town can make it to the NBA and be known as a Hall Of Famer. He’s known for being an athletic forward and for his shot form. Larry Bird has been a great player from being a kid with a dream, to a huge college prospect, and then becoming one of the greatest. First, his life growing up. Larry Bird was born on December 6, 1956 in French Lick, Indiana. Larry’s family didn’t have a lot of money so him and his five other siblings had to share a room and a basketball. As Larry got into high school he wasn’t the best player, but he improved quickly, and by his senior year he was one of the best players in the state. Larry Bird chose to go to Northwood Institute but then after getting an offer to Indiana as a transfer. Larry wasn’t able to play in his freshman season, but in his sophomore season, he lead the Sycamores to a 25-2 record and averaged 32.8 points a game. By the time he was a junior, he was really starting to get known and the word about “The Bird” was spreading. At the end of the season Larry averaged 30 points and 11 rebounds and led the Sycamores to a 23-9 record. In college, Larry didn’t like talking to reporters so people gave him the nickname “The Silent Sycamore”. Larry lit his senior season on fire. He led the Sycamores to 33-0 season, but was shut down by Michigan State, in the NCAA Championships, which was led by a talented guard named Magic Johnson. In the 1980-81 season Larry Bird was averaging 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists. As Larry and Celtics went into the playoffs after finishing 62-20 in the regular season, they faced the Chicago Bulls which they beat in only four games. In the second round Bird and Celtics fell 3-1 against the 76ers. To keep their playoff hopes alive Bird took over the game in the last few seconds getting two steals, a big rebound, and to top it off he hit the game winning shot. They faced the Houston Rockets in the Finals and the Celtics were up 3-2. With a great three to ice the game the Celtics won the Finals and Larry Bird won his first in only his second season. In the 1983-84 Finals against the Lakers, Larry Bird met a familiar face known as Magic Johnson, the same person who defeated him in college. The series was a back and forth brawl between Bird and Magic. It came down, after a 3-3 tie, to game seven. Larry Bird and the Celtics took the series and the Larry O'Brien Trophy with them, defeating Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers. But this wasn’t it. In the 1985-86 Larry Bird or the “NBA’s most Complete Player” averaged 25.8 points and 10 rebounds.
