Activity: Description/Brief History Lacrosse is a team sport, originally played by the indigenous peoples of North America, using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick with a net. When originally played by native peoples it was known by several different names, depending on the tribe, including "bagataway" or "the little brother of war" in the Ojibwe language, and "tewaarathon" in the Mohawk language. The boys/men's version of the game is a contact sport, which requires padding such as shoulder pads, gloves, helmets, elbow pads, cup, and sometimes rib guards. Cone Cut drill • Set up multiple lines of cones vertically across the gym floor • Have students line up in groups in front of the cones • Have the first student in line run out to the cone and cut left or right, front or back • Thrower places a forward “running” pass out for cutter to receive • Cutter runs to next cone and repeats for all cones until finished • Cutter goes to back of line, thrower becomes cutter, next person in line becomes thrower C.
