Greek Mythology
Greek Mythology is a very diverse subject, including many topics such as Major Greek Gods and Goddesses, Titans, Greek Monsters, Greek Traditions, and Superstitions. While Greek traditions and beliefs may be different from ours, we still have many things in common. Superstitions are an important part of Greek mythology and culture as well, and are seriously followed. Greek gods and goddesses are highly worshipped and important to the culture. Greek Mythology is also a very interesting subject for me and it has many new topics any reader could get lost in.
There are many major Greek Gods and Goddesses, included in Greek Mythology, including Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Apollo, Hephaestus, Ares, and Athena. Zeus is the god of the sky
Atlas was the leader of the titans during the war. As punishment for this, Atlas was given the backbreaking job of holding the sky up. Cronus had many children, three of which were Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. Cronus was afraid when a prophecy was made, claiming that one of his children would overthrow him. To ensure this prophecy would never come true, he began to eat his children one by one, however, Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades managed to survive when their titan mother Rhea helped them escape. Rhea had helped her child, Zeus survive Cronus by resorting to trickery. Rhea had created a replica of Zeus for Cronus to eat made from a large piece of rock bound in dressing material. Later on, Zeus had grown up as a god and forced Cronus to spit up his other children, and then started a battle against the titans. Themis was a female titan who was also an early bride of Zeus. Themis was the daughter of Uranus, and had six

The beginning of the myth of Cronus is about the father Uranus and the mother Gaea had children and the father did not like how one of them look so the other brothers took down their father Uranus .The middle of the myth is about is that Cronus, one of the children got married and he was afraid that his child would rise up against so he swallowed every one of them.At the end of the myth, Zeus one of his children did not get swallowed , he had a plan to get his siblings back and he did and he took down his father just like the prophet said would happen. In the myth had a prophecy that would someday happen and they both tried to not make it come true, but it still happened and they were both wrong trying to skip the prophet Cronus and his Titan brothers to rise up against their father and save their other brothers Cronus did
Greek mythology is something that everyone knows of, not only because it is so interesting, but because of the many gods and goddesses. One of the most well known goddesses being Goddess Athena who portrayed so many good characteristics. Although Goddess Athena is best known for wisdom, military skill, and crafts, she is also known for her mythological influence on the modern day world and her acts of heroism.
Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, later rose from the sea where Uranus's body had been thrown. Now Cronus became king of the universe. Cronos married his sister, Rhea, and they had six children. At the time of Cronos's marriage to Rhea, Gaea prophesied that one of his children would overthrow Cronos, as he had overthrown Uranus. To protect himself, Cronos swallowed each of his first five children -- Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon -- immediatly after birth.
Mythology was very important to the men and women of ancient Greece. They worshipped the gods and goddesses, wrote poems about them, and based a great deal of art work off of them. The people of Greece looked to the gods and goddesses for help in all aspects of their lives; including health, agriculture, and war. Reading about Greek mythology can inform people about the society of Greece because the Greek gods were created by the people of Greece. Three main goddesses who were worshipped by the Greeks were Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite.
Greek mythology has many different traditions and the culture was very influential to Today’s Society. We see many examples in modern culture that are a result of Greek culture, such as the Olympics in honor of Zeus. Mythology had many traditions and each god has a specific job and relates to modern day. Greek mythology is the time of crazy creatures and heroic tales of gods. The gods were basically in charge and looked up to as celebrities are today. One god in particular, Zeus, was considered to be the boss over all others and he and a mortal woman had a son named, Hercules. Hercules was most known for his strength, as well as his success in completing the almost impossible 12 tasks given to him by the ever powerful Apollo. He completed the tasks with the help of Hermes and Athena. He served as a sense of protection for the people, without him many people would have died. Although Hercules in Todays culture is portrayed as a strong, fearless hero, he was also a troubled, anger-driven person which sometimes came back to haunt him.
Cronus and Rhea are the parents of Poseidon in Greek mythology. Poseidon is one of the 3 sons; the others are Hades and Zeus. And there three sisters were Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and while Cronus was the horrible father who feared his own children so he ate them at birth. He continued to eat the newborns until his wife tricked him by giving him stones instead to save Zeus. But sadly Poseidon (and Hades) was eaten by Cronus to save them Zeus (who was being raised by nymphs) became Cronus’ cupbearer. He poisoned Cronus and he threw up Poseidon. They started a war against Cronus it lasted for ten years until the brothers released the Cyclopes and in return they gave the each a weapon. Poseidon received a trident, Zeus a lightning bolt, and Hades the helmet of darkness.
The Greeks were very strong in their polytheistic beliefs. Polytheism is when someone believes in more than one god. In the Greeks case, there were an unbelievable amount but there were 12 main Olympian Gods. There are also plenty of minor gods that are still important in their lives. The Greek gods impacted the lives of the Greeks through their religion and beliefs. Many people don’t know the story behind the gods and how they came into “existence”. That is what you will learn from this report.
A mythology is an important feature of many cultures. A myth is a sacred narrative that explains how the world and humankind assumed their present form. In a broad sense, it can refer to any traditional story. A myth’s function is to provide a model for behavior and to provide a religious experience. By reenacting myths societies bring themselves closer to the divine.
Greek mythology has always been a very fascinating subject to talk about. The belief that gods and goddesses once ruled the Earth is an interesting idea. To think that the land and sea were once looked upon by one of the strongest and fiercest gods that ever lived. Poseidon or Neptune was known to be one of the strongest gods that ever walked on the planet. Poseidon is best known for protecting and watching over the ocean.
Mythology is critical to Greek people’s everyday life, just like how religion is in our modern day age. Everyday events, such as a thunderstorm, can be linked to a god or goddess. For example, when an earthquake would happen, it would be Poseidon crashing his tritan on the ground. People’s lives revolved around the whole ideology and it served as a way to explain the unexplained and to help them in times of need. All of the stories of these great gods and goddesses were passed down generation through generation, each time becoming more extreme and distorted.
He despised the Hecatoncheires. He punished them by imprisoning them by pushing them into hidden places of the earth. This severely angered Gaea and she plotted against Uranus. She made a flint sickle and tried to convince her children to attack Uranus. All were too afraid to do so, except for the youngest Titan, Cronus (“Creation of the World”).
When we look at Greek Mythology we often run into the gods of that era. Sometimes they are merely backdrops to the human element of the story but in stories such as The Odyssey the gods play a prominent if not vital role to the central themes of the story.
When Zeus grew up, and with the help of Gaea and his mother Rhea, he slipped Cronus a potion that made the Titan disgorge the swallowed children. Being gods, they were unharmed, albeit a tad dazed and confused. With Zeus serving as their leader, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera waged war against the Titans for supremacy of the Universe.
Greek mythology has also been the origins of many objects and events of the world. An example is the Olympic games. The name Olympic was taken from Mount Olympus, believed to be the dwelling place of all the Greek gods and goddess. Another example would be Valentine?s Day. This special event is held on the fourteenth of February, Cupid is the Icon for this particular event. The Greek god of love and the son of Aphrodite symbolizes Valentine?s Day, this is because of the Greek myth where cupid fell deeply in love with a mortal.
In conclusion, myths reflect show us the Greeks view on the world, religion, and nature. Their understanding of the world is both similar and different compared to modern society. Myths also reflect the importance of gods in the Greek society and how each god represented something different. In addition, we can see the role of monsters in myths, what they represent and how were they important. Myths also show us the role of women in society and whether they were as important as men or not.
