Black History Essay George Washington Carver George was an African-American male born into slavery. The farm he was from was owned by Moses Carver. Moses’s farm was in Diamond, Missouri. His date of birth is unknown. It is likely that he was born in January or June of 1864. George applied to the Highland Presbyterian College in Kansas. His college was impressed by George’s application and granted him a full scholarship. When he went to the college they turned him away. This was because he was black. They did not accept him because of his race. Carver invented over 300 peanut products including peanut oil to lead into motor oils to gasoline. If it wasn’t for carver we would be walking pretty much. He was also a great agricultural chemist. His chemistry skills played a HUGE roll in all of his creations with the peanut. His knowledge of chemical bonding led to the peanut oils and motor oils we have today. …show more content…
His dad got married to george’s mom and they had two children. His dad’s name was Giles and his mom’s name was Mary. George had a brother named James jim carver. James’s birth year was 1859 and death date was unknown.
I choose George washington carver because I enjoy agriculture and using the earth as a resource. Also george died on January 5th 1943. George also made a book called The pickling and curing of meat in hot weather. His education was Iowa State University. George Washington Carver was an african american botanist.

This is because they affect all people of all races and ethnicities. Conclusion Allan Bakke was denied his fourteenth amendment right to equal protection of the laws. In addition the University of California at Davis violated Title IV of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. By order of the Supreme Court Bakke was admitted and th e numerical quotas of the special admissions program were deemed unconstitutional. Justice was served to Bakke, but future generations who are not minorities may be plagued by the other half of the decision: That race may still be used as a "plus" on an application.
Mr. George Washington Carver, the name can be found in textbooks across the world, but the only knowledge about Mr. Carver that all really know is that he was known as the Peanut man. Can a man really gain notoriety by being associated with the peanut? Possibly, but George Washington Carver did so much more than just create the modern-day version of peanut butter. The man created an industry out of a peanut, literally. He not only created a new niche for farmers, but he helped revolutionize agriculture. James Monroe was born on April 28,1758 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, at this time Virginia was a British colony. He was the oldest son of five children, one sister and three brothers. They were the children of Elizabeth Jones Monroe and Spence Monroe. Spence Monroe was a farmer and a carpenter. When James was eleven he started to attend Campbelltown Academy. In 1774 when James Monroe was sixteen Spence Monroe died and James was left to manage the family property. James Monroe attended the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg the July after his father died.
Martin Luther King Jr was born on the 15th of January, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, known as Michael Luther King Jr and was than assassinated on the 4th of April 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The world renowned Baptist minister and social activist had a massive impact on the American civil rights movement from the mid 1950’s until his assassination in 1968. Martin Luther King Jr’s up bringing was fairly pleasant and he was brought up with a great education. However, he had his couple of prejudices and traumatic experience through out his life. George Washington Carver's interest in plants began at an early age. Growing up in postemancipation Missouri under the care of his parents' former owners, Carver collected from the surrounding forests and fields a variety of wild plants and flowers, which he planted in a garden. At the age of ten, he left home of his own volition to attend a colored school in the nearby community of Neosho, where he did chores for a black family in exchange for food and a place to sleep. He maintained his interest in plants while putting himself through high school in Minneapolis, Kansas, and during his first and only year at Simpson College in Iowa. During this period, he made many sketches of plants and flowers. He made the study of plants his focus in 1891, the year he enrolled at Iowa State College. After graduating in 1894 with a B.S. in botany and agriculture, he spent two additional years at Iowa State to complete a master's degree in the same fields. During this time, he taught botany to undergraduate students and conducted extensive experiments on plants while managing the university's greenhouse. These experiences served him well during his first few years at Tuskegee.
Mary Harris Jones Mary Harris was born on May 1, 1830. She was born near Cork, Ireland. Her father got into some political trouble and had to move the family to Canada when she was eight years old. After high school Mary decided she wanted to be a schoolteacher and later moved to Tennessee in 1861. That is when she met George Jones and they got married. He was an Iron Molder like her father.

On February 26, 1946 Herman Sweatt, who had excellent academic credentials and met all standards for acceptance into the university, was denied admission into the University of Texas Law School because of his African American race. At the time, the University of Texas had a separate law school for African Americans to attend because segregation was still widely accepted in the United States. The University of Texas Law School had 16 full-time professors, 3 part-time professors, 850 students, and over 65,000 volumes in their library along with an excellent reputation ("Find Law"). Meanwhile the separate college for African Americans had 5 full-time professors, 23 attending students, and only 16,500 volumes to study (“Find Law”). The inequality between the two schools was obvious, and many applicants began to question change among the university. Herman, along with many others, denied their acceptance into the separate college and decided to fight for equal education. Being on the verging years of civil rights and sixties revolution, the student’s will power was driven by their years of being unequal in their cruel society. These denials would prove to be the beginning of a long and stressful road that would later influence the decision of Brown vs. Board of Education (Cantu).
Recently the merits of a race based admission policy to colleges and universities have come under scrutiny by the American public. Take into account the position of black conservatives, who feel that affirmative action merely perpetuates a system of preference in reverse and does nothing to fix the problems African Americans face in lower educational programs. When looking at the arguments of the Black conservatives and comparing them to the view points of the opposition, a certain conclusion may be reached.

He didn't just keep the best for himself; he gave it away freely for the benefit of mankind. Not only did he achieve his goal as the world's greatest agriculturist, but also he achieved the equality and respect of all. George Washington Carver was born near Diamond Grove, Missouri in 1864. He was born on a farm owned by Moses and Susan Carver. He was born a sick, weak baby and was unable to work on the farm. His weak condition started when a raiding party kidnapped him with his mom. He was returned to the Carver's farm with whooping cough. His mother had disappeared and the identity of his father was unknown, so the Carver's were left to care for him and his brother James. Here on the farm is where George first fell in love with plants and Mother Nature. He had his own little garden in the nearby woods where he would talk to the plants. He soon earned the nickname, "The Plant Doctor," and was producing his own medicines right on the farm. George's formal education started when he was twelve. He had, however, tried to get into schools in the past but was denied on the basis of race.
