The American Apollo program to land on the moon was largely successful in achieving its scientific mission objectives. The only blemishes on it would be the fire that destroyed Apollo 1, and the emergency that forced Apollo 13 to abort the moon landing mission and return to Earth earlier than expected. The aim of this paper is to exam what caused the emergency on Apollo 13 followed by how NASA examined and created a solution for this mission, and how this unexpected emergency made future space faring vehicles relatively safer once in space.
