How To Writing A Research Essay
The toughest part of the essay, for me, was taking all the information I had gained and reduce it to a mere few pages essay. After all, quality is better than quantity. I feel that if I shortened my essay, it would be weaker because I couldn't include everything that I had researched. This would mean that much of the time I spent and the information I had gathered in my research was going to waste. Reviewing the finished product, I realized that my shortened essay did in by half the pages did what my old one could not do in a few hundred -- it made a concise, focused argument. By focusing my essay, I was able to include only the best and most important points from my research, while discarding more extraneous ones. I learned that a research writer is like a funnel; he or she must take in a wide range of information at the beginning, and turn it into a narrow argument in the end.
An essay is more than just uniting facts from your research, it is an opportunity for you to voice your own opinion. An essay with just facts is informative, but not very interesting and get boring. It tends to lose your audience.. A strong essay is one that uses facts to support an argument based on the writer's analysis of the topic. Even though this is easier said then done.
Always keep the essay question in mind during your research. Ask yourself: "What do I need to know in order to answer the question?" Have a system of how you are going to answer that question. Find plenty of information to support your argument. Throughout your research you will surely find

My group previously visited the Sheraton Hotel for our first interview with the front desk manager and it went very well. We decided to keep with the same hotel for our next interview, but due to a last-minute cancellation from the housekeeping manager we were not able to complete the interview. Due to this situation, I will be talking about a whole different hotel - G6 Hospitality. The name G6 Hospitality refers to the hotel brands – Motel 6 and Studio 6. I chose to G6 Hospitality because it is a well-known company that I wanted to know about more in-depth. From all my research, I have gained a lot of insight on what G6 Hospitality is all about.
I sat across from Helen and watched as she got her packet while I got a single piece of paper. It only took one page to say “I’m sorry, but your writing was not selected.” Helen’s packet took multiple pages to reminder her parents to sign their permission for the publishing of her essay. Helen’s story got in and mind didn’t. In retrospect, mine didn’t deserve to get in. Why? In an overzealous state to write an epic, I took what was originally 2 pages and turned it into six pages of unnecessary details, overcomplicated world structure, and random vocabulary in a classic freshman attempt to sound intelligent. It didn’t work.
Just write. Use your imagination. Let your thoughts run wild and write with a passion. Is this what defines an essay? This is the ability to freely write of someone’s desires and dreams…all through an essay. In her excerpt “Portrait of the Essay as a Warm Body”, Cynthia Ozick uses diction, irony, and metaphor to help distinguish an essay from an article.
It took me a week to write the essay I used instead of the three months it
Although the early years of television in 1950’s saw some diversity and visibility of African Americans, they were always portrayed and subservient roles to white Anglo-Saxons. Most of this racial diversity stemmed from the legacy of radio where numerous ethnicities were portrayed in accents and dialects, many radio shows were transferred to television. Not only were black Americans portrayed in subservient roles, they also performed very stereotypical acts like the submissive Uncle Tom character, or the overweight black maid. “For most fictional programs of the 1950’s, black characters functioned to support white characters, offer comic relief at their own expense, and passively justify a segregated American society.” (Television and American Culture, Jason Mittel, pg 317) One example of this would be the television show Amos ‘n’ andy where the producers hired and all-black cast to portray the minstrel acts that the radio show had been known for. In the show, the characters were highly stereotypical in their antics; usually every character was either a crook or an out of work lazy man. It’s no surprise that many African American viewers took great offens...
There have been many twists and turns in the ways in which the black experience was represented in mainstream America cinema. But the repetition of stereotypical figures, drawn from ‘slavery days’ has never entirely disappeared (Hall, 1997). A Stereotype can be described as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing (Oxford University Press, 2014) and can affect the target by getting hold of a few simple, vivid, memorable, easily grouped and widely recognised characteristic, about a person and reduce everything to the specific traits and exaggerate them (Hall, 1997). One of the most well-known stereotype has to be the ‘Black-stereotype’ which can be seen in all media productions ranging from news, film, music videos, reality television and other programming and forms of entertainment. Beginning around 1830, the history of African-Americans is a centuries old struggle against oppression and discrimination and because of these major issues, popular representations of racial ‘difference’ during slavery, has caused two main themes that are seen as blackface stereotypes today.
The strengths in my writing are my organizational skills, grammatical construct, and my work ethic. Organizing an essay is a very natural process for me. I always follow the basic guidelines for the structure of an essay, which state that one must have an introduction, thesis statement, body, conclusion, and a works cited when needed. The “Are Helicopter Parents Entering the No Fly Zone?” essay, “Animal Cloning—How Unethical Is It?” essay, and the “The Clean Water Act—Is it Successfully Reducing Water Pollution?” essay all have a proper introduction, an informative thesis statement, a body, great conclusions, and works cited pages. Formatting the essays is an integral aspect of organizational skills. Each new paragraph is indented, the font is twelve-point Times New Roman, the sentences are double spaced, and the headers are correct.
The examples used in the essay are the main contributions to the message. Without examples or really without a fine overall story the text simply can't be interesting. Even a very awkward structure and complex words can make a for a good and easy read if the story can enthrall the reader. The story and the examples given are the most important variables in a personal
The performance I attended for the concert critique was a senior recital for Teresa Norton and Tracey Barnes. They played violin and piano respectively. The concert was at Goranson Hall and I immediately felt a sense of closeness and intimacy due to the smaller size of the concert hall, which added to the sentimental value of such a special performance. They played a total of three pieces, which included Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler, Terzetto in C Major, Op. 74 for Two Violins and Viola by Antonín Dvorák, and Sonata for Violin and Piano, No. 17 in C Major, K. 296 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Overall, I really enjoyed going to the concert and experiencing Idaho State’s music department.

Collecting data for any essay is very important. It helps you analyze traits, gives evidence or explains a situation, person or a thing. For this particular essay I have chosen argumentative essay to explain the improvement to my writing process because that is an essay I had put lot of time in. Moreover, it was something I was a little confident about because when I read it, it had a weightage of knowledge. While collecting data, I was very conscious about the source and bookmarked them for later use. However, the thing I learnt from that was I had too many sources from were I pulled the information. Even though It gave me a good paper as it were good evidence to prove my point. The problem was I had found a really good source, but when I already was in the last body paragraph. So lesson learnt was to give more time in looking for sources or data that will help your essay to develop really well. Overtime, as I analyzed the data I had, put it down on a paper and grouped them to what they will convey together. I work to make final draft but it is my rough draft, therefore for final draft I would only make revisions or change things which do not belong. There were essays that were not developed well or lacked something. Argumentative essay did achieve the goal of persuading but it failed in areas such as
This is where the writer provides ideas and arguments with corresponding analysis, interpretation and evaluation. It also requires proficiency in grammar usage which means a writer should be mindful of the rules and conventions in writing to avoid erroneous sentence structure.
