Religions of the World

• Judaism: Is the oldest monotheistic (believes in one god), religion still enrolled today. It has about 14 million to 16 million members following today. It is the 12th largest religion in the world. It was founded by a man named Abraham back around 2000 B.C. The Jew study a book called the Torah. It has the first 5 books of the Old Testament in it and 613 commandments in it. Today, less than 300 of them are used. The Jews have different types of Jew, first there is the Orthodox. They are very old fashion and take the Jewish religion very serious. Next, we have the Conservation Jews; they are still taking things serious but not as much as the Orthodox. Last but not least we have the Reform Jews. They adapt to today’s society. They believe girls can be a minister. Jews can be born a Jew but doesn’t have to believe in the Jewish faith. All the Jews worship on the Sabbath which a Saturday, but on Saturday they cannot work. What they worship in is called a Synagogue. It is like a church or a temple to them. Other cool things about Judaism is that they have this thing were they can’t eat thing that don’t have split hooves and are able to chew their cud. So no pork. When it comes to sea food it has to be scaled and has to have fins. • Christianity: Christianity began as a Jewish sect in Palestine (modern day Israel) back in 33 C.E. Today it has over 2 million followers. It is the largest religion in the world. Christianity has over 34 million different sects. All Christians believe in Jesus Christ or the Messiah (the anointed one). He was born between 4 to 6 B.C. All Christians believe in the Old and New Testament. Christians believe in the New Testament. While the Jews don’t. They both have a sacrament type of thing. They both have a church to worship at. Jews have their church as a temple while some of the Christian temples are different buildings. Both believe in Moses. Both have a Sabbath day. The Jews Sabbath day is on a Saturday whiles most Christian Sabbath days are on a Sunday. Christianity was a sect from Judaism.
