Rehabilitation Counselor Education Accreditation
The title of this article is “Rehabilitation Counselor Education Accreditation (RCEA).” The article provides insight into the history of the RCEA, starting with its origin. Furthermore, it showed the growth and development of rehabilitation counseling accreditation. Before the initial stages of the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), there was a meeting that took place in 1969 in reference to broadening and developing accreditation standards for rehabilitation counselors. The article reveals how CORE received its official start in 1972 as an accrediting body.
Purpose
Shaw and Kuehn, the authors of the article highlighted the importance of sound accreditation in the rehabilitation counseling field and the process of accreditation should be developmental and consultative instead of just assessing monitoring regulations. Further, self-improvement is an important factor because as programs evolve with new knowledge and trends, adjustments would have to be made regularly to keep a cutting-edge program and an accrediting body. This would include curriculum change that would be done in a timely fashion and that is beneficial to the program.

These revisions were in direct relation to what was most important in reference to policies, licensure, and the standards of accreditation. The revisions made it possible, to better show the skill level and academic aptitudes of graduates from CORE accredited programs. The new revisions broaden the range of practice for counselors as well. The American Counseling Association is the largest professional counselor association in the world and serves over 56,000 helpers by providing resources and tools to utilize for best practices in the counseling field (ACA, n.d.). As an ACA member, professional counselors have access to professional journals, webinars, forums and other mediums that can strengthen and enhance helping skills and best practices. It would be of great advantage for both graduate students training in a counseling field, as well as professional counselors working in their field to take advantage of the being a member of the ACA.
Direct student services are in person interaction between the counselor and student. The services are described as, school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning, and responsive services. As a trainee, it has been well-educated that those three aspects of direct service is vital for the success of each student. The core curriculum are lessons that are designed to assist and attain desired competencies and to provide the knowledge, attitude, and skill needed for each student developmental level (ASCA, 2016). It can be given to anyone who wants to learn about occupational therapy in the psychosocial aspect. When I am working in the field and someone wants to learn more about what I do and what my career includes, I can give them this article to get a basic understanding of what I do. After a person reads this article, I can highlight some of the main points in the article to give them a better understanding of what is occupational therapy is in the psychosocial aspect. Nursing in today’s healthcare system is challenging because of rapid technological advance and changes in healthcare policies. There is a high demand for professionally educated nurses to meet the needs of a more complex and changing health care system. My desire to pursue a bachelor degree in nursing to enhance my nursing education. As a dedicated nursing professional with a passion for learning, I want to stay on top of these changes and learn all I can to increase my knowledge.
Occupational therapy is a career focused on helping people who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation, or participation restriction. What comes to mind when one hears the word rehabilitation? Do we coorelate it to physical rehabilitation? What about the case of societal rehabilitation? Recreational therapy offers certification, and some States licensing is also required. A person who has graduated from an accredited school with a Bachelor Degree, and those who have taken the national exam, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Many hospital settings use CTRSs in their recovery units, and specialty clinics. CTRSs go through a rigorous exam to become a CTRS. Initially, I became interested in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Walden University subsequently becoming acquainted with a Walden representative, after having the privilege of being chosen by Georgia State University’s (GSU) faculty to attend The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in Denver Colorado 2015. My interest increased after researching the program’s curriculum for the “Advanced Clinical Practice” which instructs in developing therapeutic skills. In addition, because I am soon to graduate from GSU spring 2016 with a Bachelors of Social Work (BSW), my eligibility to partake in Advanced Standing is greater than before; Walden provides this option. More importantly, Walden University is CSWE accredited. After receiving my degree, I would like to advance my career in the role of a mental health provider for the purpose of providing services that will improve the client’s psychological, physical and social functioning, with a commitment of conceiving a private practice once licensed and acquire additional expertise in the field.
The need for vocational rehabilitation as it pertains to individuals with disabilities is growing rapidly. It is imperative that the tools are given for success. There are many obstacles that people face when attempting to secure proper employment and housing. The type of disability plays a significant role. There are many factors that affect an individual's ability to obtain adequate employment and housing. Factors such as gender, age and socio-economic background are key. Employment and housing are the most important elements when transitioning from school to work or childhood to adulthood.
The learning I will imbibe from the study and training in relation to physical therapy will allow me to not only determine the psychological state of patients but also to assess their functional capacity.
