A Registered Health Information Technicians job consists of compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records for physician offices. It also involves reviewing medical records for accuracy, and compliance with regulations and the release of information to persons and agencies according to regulations.

Once you complete the academic requirements by completing an HIM/HIT program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), you are eligible to sit for the RHIT certification exam which is administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). When you pass this exam, you can wear the RHIT designated credentials.
