Miami Dade County in Miami, Florida has substantially increased its population to 7.8 percent in the past 5 years from 2011 to 2016. As a result in 2017, Miami Dade County decided that it would be best for the public interest to use Miami Executive Airport located in Miami Kendall, to use it as an airport for commercial regional airliners to transport within the state and rename it as Miami Regional Airport. The airport was originally used for corporate aircraft, which used approximately 6,000 feet of runway length, but after one year expansion, in 2018 the airport extended it runway length to 8,000 feet to accommodate the regional airliners take off & landing provisions. Amongst the regional airliners to be used in the airport are Boeing 717, Bombardier CRJ700, and Embraer ERJ 145 family. The homeowners association of Kendall took this issue very seriously and decided to file a suit against Miami Dade for violation of noise ordinances. During injunction, the Homeowners Association of Kendall presented in their case, that the airport was not complying with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, stating that the airplanes that were flying on top of communities within one mile of the airport were producing noise levels of 65 DNL (day-night sound level) or higher. Los Angeles was a very different world in the tumultuous era of the 1930’s and 1940’s. There were many things that made the headlines, not all of them outstanding events to be remembered for their daring or heartwarming abilities. In 1930, LAX was opened in Mines Field, so named for the real estate agent that secured the deal for the 640 acres in southern Westchester to be converted into landing strips instead of fields of wheat, barley and lima beans, as the field was prior. The city bought it as a municipal airfield in 1937, and the airport continued as Mines Field until 1941 when it changed to Los Angeles Airport, then to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in 1949. Although LAX is currently a world renowned airport, it wasn’t always the center of attention. Prior to its inception, the primary airports for Los Angeles were Burbank and Grand Central Airport in Glendale. It wasn’t until 1946 that they started serving LAX, because it was just too far out of the way. At that time, it was located east of Sepulveda Boulevard, which ended up being rerouted to the west to loop around the new runways that were created in 1950. Nowadays, LAX is considered one of the busiest airports in the world, with nearly 60 million passengers using the airport each year. They also have a dual function as a civil-military base, providing the U. S. Coast Guard an area to launch, operate and repair their HH-65 Dolphin helicopters. (Delta Mike Airfield, 2008). Although the birth of LAX is a notable part of history in L.A., it was only the beginning of many not-so-good firsts for the city.

Stakeholders are those groups or individual in society that have a direct interest in the performance and activities of business. The main stakeholders are employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers, financiers and the local community. Stakeholders may not hold any formal authority over the organization, but theorists such as Professor Charles Handy believe that a firm’s best long-term interests are served by paying close attention to the needs of each of these stakeholders. The modern view is that a firm has responsibilities to all its stakeholders i.e. everyone with a legitimate interest in the company. These include shareholders, competitors, government, employees, directors, distributors, customers, sub-contractors, pressure groups and local community. Although a company’s directors owes a legal duty to the shareholders, they also have moral responsibilities to other stakeholder group’s objectives in their entirely. As a firm can’t meet all stakeholders’ objectives in their entirety, they have to compromise. A company should try to serve the needs of these groups or individuals, but whilst some needs are common, other needs conflict. By the development of this second runway, the public and stakeholders are affected in one or other way and it can be positive and negative.
