Review your bottom lines, your stance, your own reflections from this first semester of teaching. Write a reflective paragraph about these.
The overarching theme of my stance, bottom line, and my first semester of student teaching was centered on setting high expectations for my students while making learning accessible to my students. Throughout this year, I believe that I’ve implemented this theme with my students at RHS and during ECLA. For example, at the end of the summer ECLA presentation, Adam and I were able to encourage our initially shy students to take part in the presentation. Reflecting on this instance, and many others, has convinced me that I should continue to practice this theme in the future: this theme enforces the concept of perseverance and growth, the key ingredients in being a successful student.
Think about the next 5 years in teaching – what are your goals with respect to your teaching, professional growth, and continued learning?
In five years I would like to:
1. Have a better understanding of the needs of my students and the education system
2. Have made a difference in the lives of many of my students
3. Be a leader within the education system and my school community
4. Have the same passion and commitment I currently have for teaching
5. Feel

I enjoy being in the classroom and working with children; when I am away from teaching for more than a month, I often find myself longing to be back in the classroom. Therefore, in five years, if I continue to feel this way about being away from the classroom, I will know that I’ve accomplished goals two and four: (2) I’ve made a difference in the lives of many of my students and (4) I have the same passion and commitment I currently have for
My philosophy on education is that all students should receive the most uplifting educational experience. I want to change a student’s spirit towards all aspects of their school and curriculum. Creating a sense of pride in themselves and where they attend school is a crucial element in their interest in education. A student should be allowed to form their own opinions, instead of conforming to the ideas of their teacher. This will be accomplished by allowing the students to take charge of their learning so that it will hold some significance to them. I feel it is my responsibility to help shape the students’ character, as well as their minds. An educator should model the behaviors that are expected from their students. An educator should practice ideal qualities such as acceptance, empathy, and broadmindedness. A teacher is not the only model that students will be exposed to in their life. This is why it is crucial to involve parents and other members of the community to share in your vision. Students learn a variety of social skills as they embark on their education at any school district. They learn to listen, take turns, hear different points of view, negotiate, communicate, and take responsibility for their own behavior. I believe that when students have those skills and attitudes; learning will be meaningful in their lives. The vision of an educator will not hold any meaning unless it is implemented, maintained and promoted to the school and community. The goal of the school is to provide the students with a wide variety of educational experiences that will encourage self-respect, the acceptance of others, customary behavior, life-long learning, and active participation in society.
Reflective Piece: (Evaluate the internship activity by responding to the following questions sequentially. Use each question as a heading. Follow with your response.)
This paper is a reflection of our group study on how the change frame of teachers learning impacted the new initiative of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) introduced in a secondary school as part of its “ICT Master-Plan 3” (MP3). This reflection shows that the findings from the interview conducted, in conjunction with literature review, have challenged and changed my assumptions on teachers learning and provided many insights into how teachers learning could be effective in schools. I have learnt that teachers learning as a change frame could not be understood as a simple instrumental and mechanistic tool but as a complex dynamic and organic construct that could not be effective without the necessary conditions and structure, and positive interactions with other change frames.
As a kindergarten teacher, I plan to become an inspiration to every child that passes through my classroom. I hope to touch the lives of the children that I meet, as well as accomplish many other things. My first goal will be not only to teach my students the curriculum, but also to teach my students to think out side of the set curriculum. I plan to show students that there is more to what they are learning. I want not only to be a good teacher, but also to be a great teacher. Students not only need someone to teach them, they also need someone to guide them, and as a teacher I do hope to accomplish this. Children recognize that education will be a large part of ...
It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
When reflection upon my lesson that I taught, I feel that I taught in a multimodal way to deepen the students understanding of the material being taught. I had never designed a meson plan for any students before especially not 5-year-old students. Therefore, I wanted to be sure that I could accurately convey the concept to the children. So, when it came to constructing my lesson, I wanted to make sure that I included auditory, visual, and tactile strategies in my lesson so I reach all the students different learning modalities.
If someone had asked me 13 years ago, when I first started my career in Education, what my long-term plan was, I would have surely responded that I planned to retire as a classroom teacher. I returned to college to pursue teaching as an adult, and was sure, at the time, that I would always be satisfied in that role. The truth is I do love my job. I love seeing that light bulb go on! As many teachers do, I spend many evenings and weekends researching and planning and going way above and beyond my expected duties in an effort to make a difference for every child. But time passes, people grow, and experiences change people in ways they didn’t see coming.
The thesis of Stephen D. Brookfield’s book, Becoming a Critically Reflective Teacher, is that teachers usually have specific assumptions about what effective teaching really means and what it entails. In this regard, teachers embark on imparting knowledge and new skills to their students based on what they assume to be the best approaches as appertains to effective teaching. Additionally, Brookfield (1995, p. 9) goes on to propose that these teachers never really pose to examine the nature of these assumptions, which essentially guide the way they intuitively instruct their students. Some of these assumptions might be well-meaning but they might not necessarily translate to effective teaching. This is especially the case where the students being taught are either specialized or prone to holding their own opinions regarding the effectiveness of their teacher, which then affect the way they respond to a specific teacher’s lessons.
Dear Committee members, Taking English 22 this semester has been a big impact for me as a writer. When I first started I had no clue how to write a strong essay. Throughout the course I managed to learn different sets of skills in order to become a more confident and powerful writer. Honestly writing was never a passion of mine but I learned that writing can be very important because writing is used in everyday life.
This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as every child should be instilled with the wish to learn."
I knew what I was going to major in ever since I started High School. I had a passion and I wanted to pursue it, no matter the challenges or consequences. So, when my scholarship required me to take a Student Development Class, I signed up for the class that was open and seemed interesting. When I walked into class for the first time, I was confused because I was surrounded by many people who had no idea what they were going to do. This was a very unconventional experience because I have always known what I was going to be and have always planned out my life accordingly so. I had to force myself to take a step back and start viewing the world from my present college life instead of basing everything on future ambitions. By doing so, I was able
In conclusion, us teachers must find ways to reach the minds of every individual by allowing them to express themselves and understand every lesson taught. My goal as a teacher is to provide to in each and every student with the necessary skills and knowledge so they could succeed on their own. I want to leave a memory of myself as a teacher who was not afraid to roll up the sleeves to help another student in any way and influenced others to do the right thing. My colleagues recall me a teacher who regularly participates and who was active to contribute assistance to the school community.
This week has been one of the most educational week of the summer. I strongly believe that receiving information on the positions we hope to obtain and heeding to the expectations from professionals who are seeking employees to work in their campus, is imperative information that prospecting teachers and administrators essentially need. It is also important that we understand the proper and effective way to conduct a PLC. We also learned what to expect in our first year of teaching. We learned about the emotion and the stress that is placed on a first year teacher. It is very important that a first year teacher stays motivated and remembers why they became a teacher. A first year teacher should never be afraid to ask and should
As a future educator, I have many goals. My first goal would be to never overpower my students. Being a teacher should not be a job, it should be a passion. I will focus my classroom around the student’s needs, rather than my own. The classroom will revolve around the students. I will be their guiding hand through education. Another goal of mine is to have the students interact in a positive way. Social interaction is very important. As students combine with peers they share knowledge and learn how to solve problems. In the real-world, this what will happen. Whenever I can, I li...
