When I began this AP course, I thought that I knew quite a bit about writing. However, as it progressed, it soon became clear that I knew far less than what I had thought I did. This course has shown me how to take my personal skills, and adapt them to fit each type of writing. It has also taught me how to take my personal situations and form them into different styles of writing. For example, when we worked on our rhetorical analysis essays in class it was easier to learn the lesson simply because of how I was able to implement my ideas into the essay itself. I believe that working this way has it perks. One of those perks I obtained was Courage; I acquired this without it even being mentioned once in class. We would identify the parts or features of something and explain how these parts or features worked together. A lot of persuasive techniques were used in these literary works such as this quote in Arthur Miller’s The crucible,
I can. And there's your first marvel, that I can. You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor. The character John Proctor states this with tears in his eyes and uses this type of emotional persuasion or Pathos to convince the rest of the inmates to resist giving their confessions to the court. Instead, he and the remaining prisoners decide to keep their social freedom by not giving in and confessing to the court. They end up making an important statement to the town of Salem, but at the cost of losing their lives.
