Reflections - Original Writing You don’t believe in such things. You don’t care about how many swallows you have seen so far or the ones you are going to see in future. You are walking and thinking. Wait, you don’t want to do both these things together. It’s not safe to think and walk all at once. You might just fall in a manhole or get run over by a car. So you decide to look and walk rather than to think and walk. That’s good. Now then, the thing about the swallow, you don’t believe it. Besides who said, they were swallows. You don’t have swallows in Bangladesh. They were probably Shaliks. No one ever said seeing Shaliks has the same consequence as seeing swallows. Two little Shaliks sitting on a branch, that is exactly what you saw. Not one, but two. One for sorrow, Two for joy, isn’t that what they say. You pause in front of Hallmark. You wonder, should you go in, or should you just pass on. You see people going in. Their faces full of, what??? You don’t know. Hope maybe, excitement perhaps, or just pure boredom. You decide to go in. Not to buy anything, of course. Just to have a look. They have pretty things in Hallmark. All those cute gifts, beautiful messages. Love is a big business here and it sells. You hear people talking. For a moment, you get a glimpse of their lives. Bits and pieces of their joys. You want to liger a bit longer, but you decide to leave. What’s the point anyway? You come out on the streets. Be careful now, don’t start to think again. How do you plan to cross the road if you keep on thinking? Pay attention! Watch out for the traffic. Okay, now that you have crossed the road, you can safely start to think again. No no, wait. Thinking while standing, hardly sounds inviting. Do you see any parks nearby? Not that you are supposed to find a nice clean park in Dhaka with an

I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This combined with general apprehension about college life left me terrified. I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support
Composition 1 taught me crucial writing skills and helped me grow as a writer. At the beginning of the semester, my papers utilized a considerable amount of passive voice, lacked transitional phrases, and the context was not always fully developed. But throughout the class, my writing became more clear, organized, and comprehensive. Passive voice allows the object of an action to be the subject of a sentence. In my first paper, the formal summary essay, I wrote, “The term describes situations, dating back to the 1980s, when excessive numbers of blacks were found to have been exposed to highly polluted areas.” The use of “were found” and “been exposed” distort the meaning of the sentence. Passive voice confuses the reader and makes comprehension
My portfolio will demonstrate the skills and writing techniques I have developed and honed while taking the course English 1010 at the University of Memphis. Some of the techniques and skills I have learned include how to write with different persuasive strategies on the audience and how to incorporate critical thinking into my work. As well as these skills I have learned how to apply an effective composing process to my writing and have fine tuned my writing abilities. Writing with different styles on different topics has improved the way I approach writing papers. These styles helped me learn quickly, therefore making me a better writer and student at the same time.
While in English 111 we completed an annotated bibliography, about 5 or so quizzes, a group project, and three different types of papers. It is my hope that while you are reading this letter, you will gain an understanding of the work I have completed in my English 111 class. Below I discuss the three different papers and classwork assignments I completed in my English 111 at Germanna Community College.

Always take a moment at the curb to review this tactic to ensure it sticks: “Now what do we do before crossing the street?”
Every writer has his or her own way to knock out a paper. Whether it is a two-in-the-morning-due-the-next-day paper or a well thought out commodities paper for economics. The habits and techniques used are the same. When I begin revising my writing, I start by finding a few people to peer review my work. It is always a good idea to have a fresh set of eyes looking over my paper. Some of the aspects they decide to change are not always what is best for my paper, so I compare it with other peers.
Life is full of uncertainties. Risk lurks in every nook and corner of human life. In short, life is unpredictable. We need to be prepared for such circumstances. Leading a happy life, involves good planning and analysis for your personal health. Accidents do happen and you need to be prepared for such situations. When you are not able to control the vehicle or make rational decisions can happen you are much more likely to get into a car accident. Accidents the normally involve other people. Car accidents can be often fatal or life changing. These accidents can involve other people and not just you. One such story is about a couple who just recently got engaged to each other. On their wedding day they were driving down the highway and they we getting on the on ramp and a drunk driver was entering on the exit ramp. The two cars collided head on and seriously injured the woman. The mad was killed in the crash. The drunk driver left the scene. Another story was about a kid and his friends. HIs friends were able to make it. The drunk driver went home and went to bed without even realising what he
Not every event has a guaranteed outcome- sometimes, one has to take a gamble in the game of life. There are some, however, who would prefer to travel within the safe, confined lane of actions with a definite outcome. Deciding whether or not to take risks in life can be tricky, but as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.” This quote means that people should take risks in their endeavors, because life is precisely about trying new things and experiences. As the quote explains, taking risks in life is a vital step to success, fulfillment, and gaining more out of experiences.
Knowing how to drive a car myself, I can’t expect an accident to occur. It just happens without your knowledge and sometimes without your fault too. It’s better to take precautions just in case such a thing happens. This will surely help you financially for the repairs of the vehicle.
In the past, if I was inclined to read poetry I would probably have stopped about line two, rolled my eyes and found something else to do with my time. My view of poetry has now changed the way I read other poet’s work. My exposure to several different chapbooks now allows me to recognize themes within poetry, understand the progression of thought through their verse, and garner a comprehension of the motivation behind the artist process of producing a piece of creative art. The idea of motivation in a chapbook became clearer for me when I re-read The State of the Ship by Le. Goldstein. I originally read it in the beginning when I had no knowledge of how to interpret poetry and decided to pick it back up a few days ago. I wanted to gain a better
It’s true what everyone talks about safety – you are the key to your safety, when you do it safely you do it the right way and the best gift you can give to your family is to always stay safe. We have been taught by our parents and teachers to be cautious while doing a number of things. That’s very essential in our daily lives, because one needs to be extra cautious to prevent unavoidable accidents. However, mishaps do happen everywhere in the safest of places, no matter how careful we are in our actions. It is highly unpredictable, what’s going to happen the very next instant. There are numerous incidences we come across like simple trips, falls, cuts due to sharp objects, burns or sudden worsening of a person’s health condition, causing
