Walking into College Now English class the first day and after reading the course description, I assumed it was going to be about learning methods and strategies of how to write and interpret different ways of writing. At the beginning of the course, I felt like all the work was not very self-explanatory, but at the same time it seemed like if I worked hard and made an effort it would pay off. I understood that the purpose of the assignments included in the syllabus were meant to be challenging, and to help me improve professionally. Some essays, like I had expected were very challenging to me, while others I feel as though I exceeded my expectations. Enclosed I have submitted some of the essays I have written throughout the semester.
Of all the essays we did this semester I would have to say I am most proud of is the reminiscence writing, "A Life Without You," I also received one of the best grades on this essay. This one is the best due to the content, for me I feel it best connected my personal emotion of them all. This paper was a breeze to write, because it was a personal experience. ... the course. By writing these pieces, I have learned I most definitely like personal narrative style of writing the best as in my reminiance writing essay. I can find my "writers voice" most easily when I am writing from my personal emotions and seem to enjoy it more. I feel it is more organized and the content is more concentrated on the topic. I enjoyed writing my definition essay and the reminiscence essays because of this. Also I learned that no challenge is impossible from writing my informational and portrait of a writer essays. Even though I found each very difficult, I soon found out it just takes practice. I have been introduced to different writing styles of writing and endured a lot of criticism, as well as positive feedback. From writing in these various methods, I have learned to become a well-rounded individual who can write for a variety of audiences.
