I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”. When enrolling into Composition 1, I had a fixed idea that it was going to be an easy A, since I wrote in my spare time. This class
I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition. In the past, I used to start writing an essay without writing an outline. I even did not brainstorm before I began to write.
With this fall semester coming to an end, I have been reflecting about my writing skills. Before I took this class, I used to believe that I know how to make a good paper but I was wrong. Writing is one of my weakest skills I have, but this class helped me on how to make a better and well-constructed essay. This letter will show how I have improved from the writing assignments that was assigned. All writing assignments are challenging for me.
With all the workshops, conferences and class discussions, my writing has improved. Key to the writing process, is the ability to review and edit one’s own paper. While the act of actually writing a paper and developing appropriate ideas may be difficult, the most difficult step of the writing process is finding places in the paper that may be removed and finding places that may be changed. Through the exercises and activities in English 105, I was able to better learn how to find faults in my paper, and I learned how essential the editing process is, in the creation of a great work of writing.
I learned that I can enjoy writing by putting my self-imagination onto paper, and letting other people learn from my own experiences. Writing doesn’t just have to be boring, I’ve started to have fun with writing because I learned that I was capable of it. For example, I can write about a funny moment that happened to me, and relate that to the topic of the essay. So now I put a little more excitement in my essays than how I use for write them. I’ve also used the same vocabulary a lot in my past.
However, the assignment was not asking to tell the story, the main theme is to write what shaped you as a whole. As a result, I got a poor grade and realized that this college level course was not the same as a high school writing course. In high school, I was only satisfied in completing the essay and receiving an A. What really ... ... middle of paper ... ...lized that there were many mistakes that I needed to fix in order to perfect my writing. I need to consider more about focusing on the topic and organizing for my writing, because it appeals to the audience more clear to the point.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer.
In supporting my thesis with evidence, I am able to show how strongly I feel about my topic while keeping my points clear with the evidence I choose to provide. I discovered the benefits that came along with this step when I was writing about short essays throughout this course. Reading these essays and then responding to them with a strong tone along with not getting carried away from my main points was definitely a challenge. Although by incorporating another stage of the writing process I was able to revise and edit all the unnecessary parts where my tone became a little too strong. I find a strong tone necessary when i 'm writing, I think it puts more of myself into my essays because i 'm diving below the surface to really internalize things in order to create a stronger tone.
I have improved upon areas that I was already competent in while addressing the weaker aspects of my writing. This class has been an invaluable learning experience that granted me many opportunities to become a masterful writer. One of those opportunities was the persuasive paper assignment. The persuasive paper assignment was challenging and insightful as it gave me an opportunity to express my new skills that I had learned over the course of this class. I started by taking the research opportunities I was given and narrowing down what I was hoping to talk about gave my paper an excellent foundation.
As I thought about this assignment, and heard other students discuss their ideas, I was concerned I wouldn 't be able to express my true feelings regarding my reading experience; it seemed that my experience was negative while everyone else’s appeared to be positive. After reading some of your student examples, I was assured that I could honestly express my experience. After being reassured, it all started to flow. I do believe the literacy narrative was the only paper that I have been able to write in one sitting, in my entire life. In my narrative, I used many different writing techniques that were new to me, I can see the difference it makes when compared to my high school papers.
