Putting together my clinical notebook required lots of thought and planning before beginning to put it together. I wanted my notebook organized in a way that I could easily and quickly find what I was looking for. I separated the information the way that the modules are separated in nutrition assessment. I began my binder with the nutrition care process model and finished with Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment module. It was challenging but I am happy that I went with this organization because I can easily find quickly the information I need in it. I went through each module and the power point presentations to ensure I had everything that would help me in the future. I included eNCPT terminology, DRIs, lab values, and many useful equations. …show more content…
I can use it when doing nutrition assessments and anthropometric measurements at a clinical rotation. Also, if doing a rotation for example, with WIC I could use the growth charts and interpret them with the tables I included.
As a young professional I see myself using my notebook as my quick reference book. I will treat my notebook as a bible and take it everywhere I go. I plan to continue adding to my notebook as I come across useful information that I will benefit having at easy access.
I found putting together the notebook extremely helpful because I was searching for valuable information I was refreshing my memory with it. I felt as if I was reviewing for an exam by looking at the different equations and familiarizing myself again with them. Also, reviewing the different power point slides and folders on blackboard was super helpful. I was amazed to see how much information we already had learned and how quickly time has gone by. Looking back at the Nutrition Care Process Model seemed like if it was just yesterday I was learning it. Honestly, I really enjoyed putting together the notebook because every single page that was put into it was something I am excited to work with. There was never a dull moment because anything related to nutrition is of my interest. I really think it is a good idea to include part of my summary in my personal statement goals because it will show my dedication and
A Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) was completed on Anne. The MNA is a tool used to provide a rapid assessment of elderly patients’ nutritional status. Author, Joan Didion, in her essay, On Keeping a Notebook, expands the importance of keeping a notebook. Didion’s purpose is to elucidate why having and using a notebook is essential and give examples of how to keep one. This process has not been easy and I have struggled to stay consistent with my healthy eating habits. Keeping my cravings under control has always been a challenge and my love of bread makes things a little harder. I also recognized that I am a stress eater. I had never paid attention to my eating patterns until I begin to keep a journal. This project has definitively helped me monitor and attain a better Healthier lifestyle.
They are making patients more aware of the things they are or are not doing to their body, as well as what kind of food they are taking in. For example, I know doctors recommended documenting what you eat and for often/ how long you work out; well there is an application on your phone to help you keep track of activities and the food/ how much water you ingest. By getting the patients involved they are becoming more conscious of their actions. I applications like that to keep track and it keeps me more aware of what I eat and the ingredients that are in it.
This reflective essay will discuss three skills that I have leant and developed during my placement. The three skills that I will be discussing in this essay are bed-bath, observing a corpse being prepared for mortuary and putting canulla and taking it out. These skills will be discussed in this essay using (Gibb’s, 1988) model. I have chosen to use Gibb’s model because I find this model easier to use and understand to guide me through my reflection process. Moreover, this model will be useful in breaking the new skills that I have developed into a way that I can understand. This model will also enable me to turn my experiences into knowledge that I can refer to in the future when facing same or similar situations. Gibbs model seems to be straightforward compared to the other model which is why I have also chosen it. To abide by the code of conduct of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) names of the real patients in this essay have been changed to respect the confidentiality.
The Digital Clinical experience was a positive experience for me due to the fact that it is somewhat like the simulation labs that we had during our Nursing program. I liked that it was a one-on-one experience as if we were actually there with the patient. I am a visual hands-on learner and simulation labs help me understand how to put things together better. However, I did find that I would ask specific questions, as I do in my every day nursing career, which Tina was unable to answer or understand. Tina would give random answers that didn’t pertain to what I was asking and there were no suggested questions to rephrase the question appropriately. Sometimes I would have to skip the question all together.
Secondly, I will be more of an active reader. By doing so, I will highlight key phrases and or words, as well as take notes on major concepts. Lastly, I plan to go over my notes weekly to help keep all newly learned material retained.

I believe placing student nurses in the clinical setting is vital in becoming competent nurses. Every experience the student experiences during their placement has an educative nature therefore, it is important for the students to take some time to reflect on these experiences. A specific situation that stood out to me from my clinical experience was that; I didn’t realize I had ignored the patient’s pain until I was later asked by the nurse if the patient was in any pain.
I went to the operating room on March 23, 2016 for the Wilkes Community College Nursing Class of 2017 for observation. Another student and I were assigned to this unit from 7:30am-2:00pm. When we got their we changed into the operating room scrubs, placed a bonnet on our heads and placed booties over our shoes. I got to observe three different surgeries, two laparoscopic shoulder surgeries and one ankle surgery. While cleaning the surgical room for the next surgery, I got to communicate with the nurses and surgical team they explained the flow and equipment that was used in the operating room.

Nutritional assessment mainly depends on nutrients, foods and eating habits. It also depends on body composition which reflects calorie and protein needs. Although students were not allowed in the recovery unit, I was able to talk to one of the recovery nurses. I learned that a nurse’s duty of care includes monitoring the patient’s vital signs and level of consciousness, and maintaining airway patency. Assessing pain and the effectiveness of pain management is also necessary. Once patients are transferred to the surgical ward, the goal is to assist in the recovery process, as well as providing referral details and education on care required when the patient returns home (Hamlin, 2010).
