For the spring semester, I was assigned the promotions and marketing of UMW Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams. Throughout the semester, I planned and managed various promotions and marketing techniques to promote both teams. I started off by creating match day posters with seniors of both teams while using special effects to advertise the teams in great amount through well created posters. I also took the initiative of introducing the student side and fun personalities of our athletes to the rest of the student body. I made posters that had pictures of athletes on-campus in their “student mode” and listed some fun facts about their personality and their affiliation with the sport. Such posters were appreciated a lot within the department and was …show more content…
I learned how to specifically target the stakeholders and how I can use their decisions in order to promote the two teams. The stakeholders for tennis teams are the participants, community members, UMW administration that oversees athletics and the spectators. Keeping all of them in mind, I tailored my promotional approaches. I printed out the tennis schedule for remaining season and posted it around the University Tennis Center, where we have community members coming for morning and night clinic. Also, I contacted the administrative staff of Fawn Lake Country club and had them post the schedule in their facility so, any individual interested in watching a college tennis team play could easily come. Most importantly, I invited President Hurley to one of the matches because his presence to any school event attracts a lot of student’s attention and many students try to come to those events. Even though he was able to stay for only half an hour, the student turnout was exceptional and there was a lot of support for our teams. I learned to apply the various marketing strategies taught in my marketing class. The best marketing approach that fits the current promotion style for tennis teams is an organization’s promotion mix. The five parts: advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing are all interconnected when I am promoting the teams. A week …show more content…
With the constant support from the Director of Athletic Development and Promotions, I was able to achieve a lot of goals I set for myself before joining the team. The most and confidence provided by my director was incredible and I am forever grateful for that. My director understanding my other campus commitments and allowing me to work from campus was a huge help, without this I would have not been able to achieve my goals. I will never forget the friendships I have made with the teams. I thoroughly enjoyed working for the two teams, they are not only hardworking but very respectful. I believe the future interns should also create this confidence level with their director that way they can discuss any issues easily. There should be more freedom given to the interns in terms of editing/making game day posters. The interns should use various photo editing software to create the home game posters as good advertisement posters attract a lot of peoples attention. Future interns should be more creative with their promotions and marketing strategies and do a lot of research before implementing any strategies. Lastly, with the new president coming to our university the future interns should come up with ideas to invite him to various athletics events in order to introduce him with our exceptional athletics program and get his support as he and his administration
Early in our course we discussed the uniqueness of sport marketing. We noted that sporting events cannot be replicated. As I worked, I realized that for many of the participants and their families, this event may be a one-time occurrence.
Playing for the Fredonia volleyball team has allowed me to be a part of something that is bigger than myself. Each day, I had the ability to improve as an athlete and leader in order to give back to Fredonia. From the first day of preseason, freshman year, I chose hard work over complacency and fought to represent SUNY at Fredonia the best that I could. Whether it was on or off the court, I knew that I was not only a student from Fredonia, but I was an athlete who shouldn’t bring any negative attention to the school. I hosted many recruits for the team and my coach gave me the majority of them, saying that I was someone who would be a positive role model for the students and parents to meet. Many of these recruits chose Fredonia and have said that I was one of the reasons that they liked this school so much. I dedicated many hours to becoming the strongest that I could be and believe that I will leave a lasting mark on the volleyball program. During my senior season, I was very excited to have broken the total assist record for Fredonia volleyball. The record was broken under my name, however it is a statistic that my teammates helping me earn.
I first joined my high school’s tennis team when I was a freshman. Although I had little knowledge of the sport due to the district’s lack of a tennis program at the junior high I attended, I still wanted to experience something new. However once tryouts came around, I was one of the unfortunate ones to be cut for no logical reason. The news devastated me and made me feel that I wasn’t good enough to do anything. On the other hand, my friends made the team and encouraged me to try again the following year because they knew I could improve and be great. I took their advice and practiced from days on end the rest of my freshman year to improve and tryout for the team my sophomore year. Through the hard work and determination, I found myself on the team my sophomore year and joining varsity my junior and senior years, which made me feel a lot better about myself.
The following instructions apply to right-handed players as well as left-handed players with the slight adjustment in the use of opposite hands and feet. Before you begin to serve the ball, you would have to stand behind the baseline, on the opposite side of the service box. If you are serving towards your opponent’s right service box, you should be standing on the right side of your court. ...
The obstacle I had to confront a problem my freshman year in high school. I entered into orchestra class to learn the basics of playing violin. I use to play before, but I forgot how it was played. Our teacher gave us a book to read called the “The Inner Game of Tennis.” Told us to look through it and find the deeper mean towards the book. I found it interesting that he gave us a book of tennis theme. The thing we should focus on is the position of our finger patterns and note names.
Writing process like process practicing tennis. For me, when I began to study English, Writing is too difficult, and I don 't know how to write the essay on strong ideas, and well organization. It looks like I play tennis. When I wrote the essays or played tennis, I usually did what I think that I didn 't think about how to write a good essay or do to become a better good player. To be a good writer, I have to practice, learn others, and research important information to support writing. A good essay must have better organize, strong ideas, and the ideas have to support the main ideas. Playing tennis too, good players need to go through practicing process, it has basic techniques that every player has to complete to become a good player. Writing process has been as similar as the process of practicing
In the past four years of my life, no activity has affected me more than wrestling. Four years of varsity wrestling and the honor of being a team captain has instilled many qualities in me. First, through years of hard work and continuous dieting, wrestling has given me discipline. This discipline has spread to other parts of my personality, including my moral character, work ethic, and perserverence. Another quality wrestling has given me is leadership. As a team captain, I have learned to lead by example, both on and off the mat. Above all, though, wrestling has given me a love of life. Through this sport, I have experienced pain, sacrifice, adversity, and success. Exposure to these feelings-which are, in my opinion, the essence of being-has

Soccer has always been my passion. I started to play when I was in second grade. I have played continuously and am now a captain of the Suttons Bay Lady Norsemen. We are a high school cooperative team consisting of players from Suttons Bay, Leland and Northport. This is our fourth year of existence and we worked hard to establish our team and its killer reputation. The part that I am most proud of is that I was among a group of girls that helped convince the Suttons Bay School Board that our high school should establish a girls' high school team. We asked to be put on the board's agenda and prepared a persuasive presentation outlining the reasons that girls at Suttons Bay High School deserved their own team. We knew that money was not available to fund the team, so we promised to find it ourselves. The Board approved our team in the spring of 1997. Our team members and parents spent long hours in fundraising to pay for our uniforms, equipment, transportation, referees and coaches.
Funding for high school athletics is very sparse compared to the actual costs to run a promising team. With the most recent recession, travel/showcase teams taking over parent’s wallets, and misunderstanding of the Title IV amendment, funding for high school athletic teams has been dwindling in the past twenty years. Consolidation, taxing, and a well-orchestrated plans are all promising solutions to provide for high school athletics. Athletic facility fundraising groups are turning out to be the most resourceful and efficient source for raising the needed money. Fundraising is a prominent solution; however, the will and want of individual sports teams to improve their status is the ultimate way to get what each specific team needs.
Do you ever just want to achieve a goal that you have had set for the longest time? Well, for about four years I have had a goal to become the team captain of the girl tennis team. I would, without doubt, become one of the two captains on the team. I am one of the most liked team members on the team along with my best friend Tessa. If we take a flashback back to freshman year where Tess and I first started out you would think we were playing baseball with how bad we were. Even though we were awful, we set a goal that we would one day become the captains and build an incredible team. Now, however, we have gotten ten times better than freshmen year, and things didn’t really go that way. Our coach would always say to us “your goal this year is to beat your last year’s self”.
A sport now played all over the world has an interesting history. Thousands of years ago, the game of tennis began; but to many peoples surprise, they started to play tennis not with a racquet but with their hands. Tennis was started by the European Monks that played for many’s entertainment during religious ceremonies.
Honestly, coming into this class, I had no idea what to expect. I have never been in a sports management class, and honestly don’t know much about sports with the exception of baseball. All I knew coming into this class is that it was online, which was a benefit to me as in I’m a better learner when I get to work at my own pace. However, when I read the syllabus and figured out that this class would be mainly writing proposals on different topics, it began to worry me. The last time I had written an essay was my senior year of high school, so I knew I’d have to bring out some of the old knowledge to be able to write a quality paper again. Even though writing papers is a dislike of mine, these proposals turned out to be a good experience
opportunities that I was able to provide for them. I focus with the athletes on communication
During the semester, I learned a lot on how to deal with psychological distress and how as an athletic trainer I should deal with athletes to overcome their situation and be there for them. Throughout my time as an athletic training student, I always liked to observe my preceptors on how they deal with athletics that are having psychological distress after injuries, and how as an athletic trainer I should handle these situations in a professional manner. There is one situation in particular that occurred during the King’s College football season that I would like to discuss.
