I’ve always known that visual merchandising is related to making a retail store look presentable and appealing for customers to buy more. That visual merchandising is in charge of making the window displays and merchandising the store. However, in this course I learned the reason why it’s done in a specific way and I learned all the principles and elements of designs. The process of designing a layout and choosing the best merchandising strategy that best benefits our target market is more complicated than just making it look pretty. Learning the principles and elements of design, and usage of lighting and signage clearly made me understand what the term visual merchandise entails. I’ve never realized how impactful a window display can be for a customer, I thought that as long as it looks pretty and the people liked it, it would attract customer. It gave me the opportunity to see how each aspect can affect the final results. I wished that this had been the last project, because the other projects really help to have a better understanding of this project in particular. I’m aware that this term is quite different, but if there were a way to change it in a future it would be very beneficial. The Visual Retailing project was my least favorite one, because it feels a little repetitive with CIMM projects. In the case of this term, it probably would have been a good project to understand the merchandise strategies in order to apply it for the D&M Shop project. However, it felt like we were repeating the D&M Shop project, but in a virtual version. Also, the visual retailing program is not user friendly, especially when it comes to navigating around the store.
