An ethical person is defined as being honest, fair, and equal when having respectful relationship with all people in professional and academic settings. Simply put, being ethical is the making good, righteous decisions versus bad, unthoughtful ones. A person’s culture creates the rules for ethics, but the Christian community has a different set since God has called us to a higher standard. Becoming aware how to operate as a Godly moral person is the first step to creating a sanctified relationship with the world. Through faith, personal development, and vocation, God has called us to ethically participate in unison with Him.

God has instilled into me a black and white personality when it comes to making decisions. Just last week, my strong morals kicked in when a friend plucked one of the beautiful, yellow umbrellas adorning the ped-mall to give to me. Because of my belief that this was stealing, I could not accept the gift. However, there is still holes in my ethics that I need to attend to. Denying opportunities to serve the poor in Crossover or not listening to God’s command to speak his truth to someone are injustices I need to rectify in my life. This semester, I had opportunity to observe a first grade classroom for my Intro to Teaching class. During my observations, I saw how the teacher instilled qualities such as patience into to her students. When one of the younger, students began to display aggressive impatient qualities such as shoving to get to the front of the line, the teacher taught self-restraint by rewarding the child when he displayed this virtuous quality. At that moment, I learned that a teacher is responsible for much more than just teaching the subjects in their lesson play, but is responsible for ensuring their students become responsible, kind, and honest
