This class has allowed me to become aware of certain experiences that I have experienced. Moreover, it allowed me to label to the schemas that I have created. In addition, it has also related to other psychology courses as well as past thoughts and reflections. Some of the concepts that I have connect with are the social cognition, group processes, and social influence. These topics are some of the topics that I was able to reflect on the most. To begin, social cognition is the way we interpret and experience the social world. In particular, to social cognition, I want to focus on controlled thinking. One of the courses that I am currently taking is Positive Psychology and in that class we went over the concept of flow. Some of my thoughts that I had when I was learning about both topics was how both were similar. I started using social networking sites when most of my friends had already gotten one and they were asking me to create a Facebook account. In a way I was conforming to the rising popularity of Facebook, though at the time I did not notice that I was being influenced by my friends to create a social network. Though until recently when I created an Instagram and a Snapchat, was when I realized how much of a social norm it was to have multiple social media networks. Normative social influence is when you conform through the influence of other people to be liked or acceptance (p. 206). Moreover, this occurred for me in in regards to later getting an Instagram because of so many people having one, and I wanted to also be in that group. This to me was more of a private compliance because I genuinely wanted to create an Instagram so I can have as many “followers” as my friend. Controlling the Mind The ability to hold two contradictory ideas at once and accept both of them is known in the novel 1984 by George Orwell as “doublethink.” It is more than just reality control, for it must be preformed constantly and immediately to ensure that all thoughts are orthodox. Doublethink is not forced upon the citizens of 1984, yet it has become an action of everyday life, much like breathing and eating. It is essential to the stability of the Party and all of Oceania because without it, the morale of the people would plummet. In addition, doublethink prevents the true reality of humanity from being understood, which allows the Party to maintain control over all aspects of life. The ability of the word doublethink to portray how the Party keeps the citizens of Oceania under its control makes it the most important word in the novel.
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
Learning about psychology has positive effects especially in my life. The concepts that were learned in class has helped me know myself better, and to understand my family members, friends, and people around me. Also learning how to improve my own personal relationships with others. Many of the topics in psychology contribute to the skills that can be used to improve studying habits, deal with stress, and tips to improve your memory. This course has allowed me to improve my observations skills. Social cognition – Social cognition is how an individual feels and thinks about themselves and the social aspect of the world they live in. To be more specific it is how these individuals choose, decipher, remember and use this social information to make specific judgments and decisions in life (Aronson, 2013, 48).
After the second and third week of this course, I feel as if I am seeing things in a way I never have before. The idea that stuck out to me this week is that of interaction being at the center of human thought, ideas, and overall lives. I am not sure why I was surprised to hear this, but I think it is because of the fact that I spend a lot of time secluded from others and decided that that time was interaction-less, which is not the case. Even alone, I interact with myself. I talk, think, and listen, all to myself. Without human interaction, one would go insane and society would not function. For example, I read an article speaking of a patient that had all of his senses removed and he started hearing voices. I am not sure of the credibility
Psychology is the study of the human brain and its functions which includes some internal and external influences. Throughout the PSYC 101 course, many concepts were discussed and had some sort of interest. Some of the most interesting concepts were the ones who left the most effect of the average human. Such as social norms, sleep disorders, and substance abuse. All three of these concepts affect the average humans’ behavior, personality or way of thinking.

As well as “multifactorial arrangement of environmental and genetic factors contributes to delinquency abstention.” (Boutwell). For this week’s discussion board, I have chosen social-cognitive. “Social-cognitive is how people process apply and store information about other people and interaction of our traits with our situations" (Myers,2014). It's believed that we learn many of our behaviors from or through conditioning or by observing and imitating others. As humans, we are influenced by what we see. Most people personalities create a situation in which others react to whether they view your character as a negative or a positive one. How we tend to see other people and treat them according to our views, usually cause them to react the same way towards you. For example; people join social media pages because they want others to like them or think that they are a good influence/ role model. This relates with the article because they know that the higher number of people following an individual the more attraction that person or business will receive. Another example; the reason that this article exists is because of this influence, people conform to what society wants, so if Facebook is socially excepted as the new way of ranking higher than another, it is only a matter of time until this influence will reach to everyone creating a Facebook

Social cognitive theory is the study on how an individual stores, processes, and applies information about others in their everyday life. It was first known as the “Social Learning Theory”, and was later changed to the term known today as the “Social Cognitive Theory”. The definition of social cognition is defined as any cognitive process that involves one or more than one person. While the definition of cognition is unconscious process in the brain that bring about representations. Social cognition purpose is to study social knowledge, social structure, group behavior, social influences, social categories (age, race, sex) defines a person. It is actually like the example in the notes; I was in an elevator and two people came in and turn backward like not the normal way people stand in an elevator. I just stood there like, “what are you doing?” I was so confused. Then one more person came into the elevator and did the same and by that point I turned around too. One person got off and another on and they at first stood the normal way, but then looked around and also turned. It will always be something I will remember because the fact it is so simple of a change but it felt so wrong to do at the same time. Before taking this class I never thought that could have been an experiment to see what people would do. I kind of want to try it myself to get reactions from people. The study of how individuals interact, think, and their emotion affect the people around them describe what psychologists, like Kurt Lewin, analyze in social psychology. Being an anxious, self-effacing, and quiet individual, I can apply that to my social thinking toward my everyday life.
