This semester I am in a fifth grade classroom at Stafford Elementary School. We have been working on long division. Specifically for my clinical report I taught a lesson having to do with division that focused on “Interpreting the remainder”. This lesson is from the GoMath Math program that Stafford Public Schools has adopted for this school year (Lesson 2.7: Interpret the Remainder, 2015). At the start of the lesson most students struggled with finding out exactly what the questions were asking. This influneced how they would answer the question. By the end of the lesson most students learned to read the question carefully and answer that question, which often went past just doing the division problem. Some students struggled with reducing as my student at a higher mathematical level and D. W. as my student at a lower mathematical level. Although, Z. D.’s score went down from the pre-test his work showed that he learned from the lesson. He only lost points on providing his answers in simplest form, meaning he needs practice on reducing fractions. I chose D.W. because he is struggling in the class but did show improvement from pre to post test. The interview questions and responses are below for Z.D. & D.W.:

Session one began with me getting to know Jenna. However, this is not my regular student so I had to follow in the footsteps of the future teacher who was paired up with her. However I was able to give her my getting to know you activity as well has an informal assessment in order to gather an understanding of what math level she was at. After she answered questions from both the other future educator as well as my getting to know you activity, we began working on both of our pre assessments with her. It quickly became apparent that her biggest struggle was when it came to fractions. Every fraction question she had left unanswered. This domain was the shortest and was only worth six points. I earned four of the six points in this domain. Scoring only four of the points shows that I only met the standards with the two items listed under this domain. The first item listed under the assessment domain is about communicating the assessment criteria to the students and providing the students with feedback. To exceed this standard I would have needed to ask for and included the students’ input on the assessment criteria as well as shown them ways they could improve their grades. At my second experience my goal will be to do just that by providing the students with options for assessment. The second standard listed under this domain states that the teacher intern uses summative and formative assessments that has accommodations for all learners. Again, I met this standard, but there is always room for improvement. To exceed the expectations for this standard I should have engaged the students in monitoring their own progress. Over the past year I have grown as both a person and a writer. My writing has improved
Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman,and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid sanctioned me to perpetually become aware that I was different from my neighbors. Through some social interactions with my friends in elementary schools, I quickly descried that my appearances, such as my hair, eyes, and nose was different from my peers. For instance, my hair was a lot darker than most of my peers’ hair and the texture of my hair was different from most of them. “Grow out your hair” were phrases that lingered throughout my childhood days, where I had my hair at a very short length. Throughout my childhood, I longed to try to be a part of the dominant group in society such as the Caucasians, but I did not do anything to be a part of the bigger group in society. Instead,
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
The topic of what happens to those that have, "never heard the good news of Jesus Christ" weighs extremely heavy on my heart. I work with Atheist, Muslim, Hindu and Pluralist in the technology field. Frequently I am attacked just for being a Christian. For a while it was scary to know that I have become a minority in my own country. Some how each time I am attacked I love these guys that much more. My Hindu friend really knew nothing about Jesus before he met me. At lunch one day he asked me about Christianity and I was able to share with him the good news. But for some reason he rebeled and believes the Bible is, "the greatest book of fiction ever created." If not for the revelation God provided about His Word in my second year of Bible school, I probably would be a pluralist myself. I really want everyone I share Jesus with to go to heaven and it use to be tempting to think God might make an exception. However, there is only
I first became aware that people were different racially at the age of seven years old, when my parents and grandparents would tell us how our ancestors and grandparents were treated by white people before I was born. They taught us about slavery and told us all the things black people would get in trouble for, such as drinking out of the white people water fountain which was not allowed. We would listen to the stories of how my great grandmother went to jail for beating a white police officer for putting his hands on her and calling her bad names. How my great grandmother’s youngest son father is believed to be a white man because of his mix hair texture and white looking skin color.

My views on whether people are born good, evil, or neutral have not changed. I still believe that there is continuum that ranges from good to evil with neutral in the center. I think most people fall somewhere in the middle of this continuum though there may be some genetic traits that predispose them one way or the other slightly. For most people what causes us to fall into either the good or evil ranges are specific moments in time and the actions or behaviors we choose. Most people are neither fully good nor fully evil, but in a given situation can be either. However, I believe that good or evil actions can be reinforced for individuals, making the person more likely to act or behave in a similar manner again even if it is against the individual’s core beliefs about himself or herself.
The clock reads 5:15 p.m. as I walk out the Ruston residence hall doors. I head towards the David L. Rice library, which is about a ten-minute walk from my dorm. As the sliding doors open, the strong aroma of coffee fills the air. I walk past the line at Starbucks and descend down the first flight of stairs. I turn left down the second hallway and enter room 0021. The pale, cream walls and clean whiteboard make the room appear brighter than it really is. Lovely, smiling faces welcome me as I sit down at the desk closest to the door. The clock now reads 5:30 p.m. It’s time to rebuild my faith and connect on a personal level with my fellow small group members.
Writing in high school was so much simpler than the writings done in college. As a high school student, the effort put into writing is not as great as the effort needed for a college class. In high school, here wasn’t any critiquing or a revising period. The papers were much shorter and the styles and audiences really differed as well. Comparing my writing in high school to the writing I have done during my first semester as a freshman college student, I have witnessed my writing become stronger. It is more structured and the topics written about really helped me learn more than just writing down words. These papers taught me how to navigate and find helpful research. This class also helped me conduct a proper interview which is important
The process of choosing the right college is not a decision to be taken lightly. The next four years of your life should be at a place where you can thrive. So often people disregard the idea of college, and can’t grasp the concept that this next step in your life is not only exciting but frightening. This isn’t like going to Starbucks and spending a half hour ordering a drink that will only last you an hour, this decision has a direct impact on your future. The fact of the matter is that college isn’t about which school has the cutest boys, best parties, and easiest courses, rather the one that will push your mind to think in new ways. Violence is an inherent part of human nature and American society is not exempt from this basic instinct. American land was settled with violence; the American colonies formed through violent acts; the United States of America was founded with violence; and we continue our independence through the violence of warfare. Violence is found in every aspect of life from entertainment to war. As a civilized society we try to counter-act our violent nature, but it remains at the core of our existence.
