Throughout this semester I have learned several things in English 102 class. I have learned to write in different forms of essays in MLA, how to cite quotes properly, and then importance to stay unbiased when I’m writing. Over the lessons in class and reading different styles of writing forms. Now I’m capable of writing in my own style and really able to express myself more in writing. Perhaps I may have picked up a thing or two either from class or the book. I still believe that my work will still need improvement. Such as correct punctuation and sentence fluency will still require attention. An evaluation of previous work (essays) will help to improve in those areas. After seeing how low of a grade on my commentary I defiantly saw areas I could work on. The steps to help achieve this goal was look for ways to strengthen my vocabulary. Going thru the textbook to find ways to sophisticate my writing. Poor vocabulary was another contributor to my low grade on essay one. In addition I personally evaluated my word choice on every draft, looking closely for weak and repeated words. Similar to strengthen of vocabulary, I began to introduce my citations better. This aided in my informative essay were I also saw my grade change. Understanding the wonders that a well put together citation can defend your point of a paragraph. Makes the reader understand the point better and also makes the writing sound legitimate. For example the informative essay required facts and statistics from scholarly journals, magazines, or any research done and verified by person with reliable background. Then the facts and statistics would then be put in an annotated bibliography. Once forming a good argument for an outline the facts would then be placed to fit a specific point. I managed to pass my English 101 course with a low B. That’s because I had done a lot of extra credit before finals. This last essay I was panicky about the most. Due too I had taken all skills I learned during this course and used everything I could think of to persuade. I needed to convince my audience that City of Phoenix needs to cut GHG emissions by using electric cars. I really did have to do a great deal of research for this essay. Including pamphlets, various documentaries, and more than 20 browser tabs of information on my computer. I had to become the expert to really influence not only the eco conscience consumer but also technical consumer as well. I’d say I went well enough that aimed for a C or low B and got a high B instead. With all the mistakes of previous essays and finally managed to pull off nicely written one for my last. It took a lot of help from my peers and the Writing Center to brush up my essay. All I learned in class and from Mrs. Thibodeau payed off at then very end. I am a different writer then I was at the start of this
I know I was never good at writing in English, but attending this class I have learn how edit and organize my own work. Also, I have a better understanding of how to express linguistic diversity while still communicating clearly and effectively with a chosen audience. In my fourth project, it shows my improvement in grammar and organization. I learned how to conduct research for a paper, make a claim, and form a counter argument. For example in my fourth paper, I collected five research documents to support my paper. I annotated and highlighted main reasons in each documents. My claim had been redrafted several times with my peers. I valued the times with my peers and the thoughtful suggestion about my paper. More importantly, my writing skill improved significantly. Even though I still make mistakes in my papers, I believe that I am qualified to move on to English
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
When going through life learning is an everyday occurrence as each day is constantly filled with information that is used throughout the course of your life. Each day we get stronger and stronger in whatever we decide to put our minds to, weather that be academics, sports, our jobs we are constantly learning and growing on a daily basis. This semester I have grown in English as I personally felt that through the English 102 course I have been able to grasp some key concepts and writing techniques that will better me for the future. In this class there was a list of goals and outcomes that the instructor felt would be achievable and the best way to learn throughout the course. In each goal throughout this process I feel like I have improved to some degree but there is other things that I do need to touch up on a bit more to further my writing education outside the classroom.
Before this quarter started I was fairly confident that I had what it took to ace English 101. After the first paper, I realized I was mistaken. Throughout this quarter I have had numerous problems with my writing that proved I needed to do a little more studying to help take my writing to the college level. Although I did not fail any of my papers, there was plenty of room for improvement. All the areas I needed to improve on are all areas that I think every English 101 student should know. I believe that every student at the college level should know how to cite sources correctly, know how to use good transitions, and know how to properly elaborate their examples.

Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
Writing papers has been one of my biggest fears as a student. High school English class prepared me for the editing of my essays, for example, grammatical errors, spelling, font errors, and things that were under the category of fixing my paper. I realized that the writing process requires more than just editing, you have to understand that the paper is like a human body, it cannot function if every single part is not effective. I can certainly say that I have improved as a writer a great deal and this portfolio and the final revised drafts of my work certainly can argue for that. English 101 was certainly different from my other English classes; we actually focused on different parts of the writing process in each class instead of wasting our time discussing the same components of the process over and over again. As I reflect on my experiences throughout the semester of English 101 I am aware that I have met very important requirements of writing that I feel were very valuable for me as a student and my writing has improved progressively.
Although I know there is still much to improve on in my writing, I feel as though I have made tremendous strides for my first semester. I have grown as a writer, and I believe I have the potential to be a great writer. Throughout my many years left here at The College of New Rochelle, I will continue to work hard so that my final year here at the college I can look back at my writings from freshman year to see my improvement. Writing 101 has boosted my confidence and has made me a better writer today. I will take this confidence along with determination to my writing 102 class, and I hope the professor will continue the molding process that Professor smart has started.
When we talk about English 1110, everyone actually knows the main part of the course is writing. The goal of this class is to improve structural, style of writing, thoughts and performances of students. During this semester, the curriculum includes essays and topics from many different aspects of different issues which are useful to me. From this class, I had the opportunity to improve my writing skills. For example, before writing a paper, I always have outline, strategies, arranging and modifying as well as finding ideas to improve my writing style in a better way. Before taking English 1101, I just wrote essay with what I think of that time and did not care whether my essay is understandable or not; however, i have been improved for the past three months. When I see a title, I start to write down all ideas and also create an outline and order of all documents in a reasonable manner. In addition, all response papers that I have done during this semester I started to have different way of thinking by listening my friend's arguments, feedbacks or comments, agreements or disagreements. Those group activities from friends were helpful because I started to recognize what are right and wrong things in my essay. From there, I have my own personal opinions and defend my arguments.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
The entire semester I was making my essays just summaries, basically just spitting back out the information to the reader in a way that sounded somewhat knowledgeable. When writing this essay, I had to explain the rhetorical device that the writer used and what her purpose was. Without summarizing, I wrote an essay filled with quotes and outside of the box thinking; and with that I received a 95 on my essay. That was more like it…. those are the type of grades I am used to.
