Reflections of Luke
In this reflection paper, I will write my thoughts and understanding of what I read in the book of Luke found in the NIV Study Bible. I will also use what I read from the following books, Life of Jesus by John Dickson and Jesus and the Gospels by Craig L. Blomberg. Where I will answer the following questions. What Luke says about who Jesus was? What my thoughts are of Jesus? What Jesus thought of the religious leaders of the day? What are the main teachings of Jesus? Why crucify Jesus? Why does Luke say that Jesus resurrected and why that is important? Not only to me, but also to all of humanity. I will answer all these questions and more with this reflection paper on what I learned from my readings. I will also give background information, which helped me come to my conclusions. Blomberg writes his interpretation of passion, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. According to Blomberg, the events leading up the crucifixion unfolded rather quickly. The Jewish leaders plotting and Judas betrayal all going on with Jesus full awareness. Jesus then proceeds with the Passover meal as according to custom by reenact of the Passover or liturgy. The time when the angel of God passed over the children of Israel to spare them in the land of Egypt. The ceremony and probable sequence would include four cups of wine. The first cup of wine (“I will bring you out”), the second cup (“I will free you from being slaves to them”), the third cup (“I will redeem you”), and the fourth cup (“I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God”). Luke giving a fuller account of this meal shows the significance of this when Jesus speaks of his coming death by means of the broken bread and spilled blood, in conjunction with the third cup of wine of the Passover service which is meant to remind them of God’s redemption.
