I had no clue what to expect from English 100 this semester. Not only because I had not been in school for two years, but because it was one out of the first three “college classes” I took this semester. Although English 100 does not count for college credit it still was set in that environment. Since I had been out of school for two years prior to this first semester I knew I had forgotten all the skills I had learned in high school because I no longer used those specifics rules in my everyday life. I knew it was going to be a challenge but I was up for it because I understood that I would only obtain the most valuable information preparing me for English 101. As well as keeping each idea organized in a manner that one thought flows from the one before. The hook should flow into the introduction because that is what gives the reader an idea of what the writing is targeting. Another acceptable style of writing that demonstrates organization is transition words and topic sentence. This lets the reader know the subject is changing and a new subject is presented. For instance, when I wrote my response to “More Time in School” by Meg Stewart I used a question as a hook to lead onto my introduction. I said “Are kids not spending enough time in school? Kids now-a-days spend about seven and a half hours at school five times a week, sometimes less due to holidays or other occasions.” This hook and introduction flow together and gives the reader the main idea of what the rest of the writing will be about. Another transition I used is, “Overall, she says that schools lack days and hours and they should be added again to the educational system even if they cost money.” This gets the main point across while staying on topic.
