Reflection On Education

On Education Based on my own experiences, the purpose of the educational process is to prepare an individuals mind and skills to succeed in the future. The educational process commences from pre-k to graduate school, which is inclined to be helpful to the students in their future. Both, Sherman Alexie and Hsun Tzu reflect their views on the educational process including positive and negative effects in the life of a disadvantaged Native American child and in the terms stated as the “Gentleman” and the “Pettyman”. I had taken the medical assisting course when I was a junior and a senior in high school, and by the end of the two years of the program I earned my medical assisting certification and had nothing but encouragement from my teacher, my parents and also from the friends I made along the way. Unlike, Sherman Alexie who is described as a disadvantaged Native American child, that was not encouraged to learn or put forth effort on his schoolwork. According to Sherman Alexie and his other classmates “Were just Indian children who were expected to be stupid…They struggled with basic reading in school but could remember how to sing a few dozen powwow songs” ( Alexie 17). Alexie refused to fail even if there wasn 't any encouragement because he knew in the future his education will be depended upon. To emphasize Alexie’s view he kept reiterating “read” fourteen times, which was to emphasize the fact that he learned how to read and write when most of his classmates did not, which made him feel empowered. Reading was important and Alexie figured since his father loved books he would love books as well. “ Our house was filled with books. They were stacked in crazy piles in the bathroom, bedrooms, and living room” (Alexie 16). I agree with the educational process because the only way to become successful in life is to never give up. The value of education is important because every year there are new developments on ways to help the students learn more beneficially and succeeding. An environment where students are encouraged and show they “Understand” the things they have learned, will allow them to have the mindset that will give them success in their goals. Hsun Tzu and Sherman Alexie expressed their ideas about education in various different forms as stated. These writers showed how important education is and how many directions and paths you can take to succeed, but the best thing you should do is focus on one path and put your effort into it. The way you succeed is by going above an beyond the standard in order to reach where you want to be. Without any encouragement besides having his father that loved books Alexie was able to teach himself how to read and write, so if someone with little help can do it anyone can. Education promotes understanding with the ability to use the skills taught such as in the healthcare profession, which is potentially the real goal of the educational
