Effective Workplace Communication: Lessons from TGI

The goal of my speech is to inspire the listeners to use the skills being taught at TGI to communicate effectively within their workplace. I plan on highlighting the importance of knowing your audience and presenting your ideas in a manner to increase the probability of acceptance. Specifically, I will aim to present the listeners with relatable examples in which I was able to apply a tool I learned at TGI to communicate effectively, and ultimately gain the support of a team member.
After hearing my speech, I want the listeners to reflect on their current or past assignments at work and question whether they have delivered the best solution or if they let an outside factor influence them. I hope to empower the listeners to realize they are …show more content…

I want to communicate to the audience that I was able to identify who would be the most difficult team member, and how I considered his reaction to my proposed changes. Due to this foresight, I was able to address his anticipated reaction by building out the modified project schedule. The point that resonated most with me is the need to address the problem at hand and present an appropriate solution.
I realized that my speech should flow back and forth between the discussions of effective vs. ineffective communication. This strategy will better illustrate to my audience how to successfully get their ideas across.
I kept this in mind when outlining the flow of my speech and determining in which section to tell my story. I wanted to ensure that my speech presents a topic the audience can relate to while also offering them an approach that will help them in the future. I feel I achieved this by choosing a story most engineers have experienced- proposing a design and/or solution that has been influenced by an outside factor. My story will explain how the skills I’ve gained at TGI have not only improved my ability to effectively communicate, but also given me awareness of outside factors that maybe influencing my decision-making
