Personally, I define philosophy as a study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, existence and the theory or attitude acting as a guiding principle for behaviour. Therefore, I disagree with this statement as philosophy is not just about a deep expression of our wonders and the search for understanding and knowledge. Philosophy broadens our imagination and allows individuals to actively engage and critically think about the wider world. Every individual has different thoughts, values, reasons, language and understanding of the philosophical world we live in. Hence, Philosophy is a comprehensive system of ideas about human nature and the nature of reality. Philosophy is also known as a collective group of ideas and principles of existence …show more content…
J. (2000). p.264.). Philosophy can be applied to both humans and animals as from many generations ago, human beings are a transformation from homo-sapiens which is similar to chimpanzees. In the philosophical world, chimpanzees are considered as our great ancestors. Even though chimpanzees aren 't considered as humans, chimpanzees are known to be our closest living relatives. Nevertheless, our similarities and differences don 't make people think but learn about a better understanding of ourselves within society and the world. Another unique aspect about the similarities between chimpanzees and human is exemplified through complex greetings and communication skills depending on the social status of communicating. Consequently, chimpanzees communicate with others verbally using a lot of screaming, panting and other vocalization as most of their communication is done through gestures and facial expression. This is similar, towards the way humans communicate with others. Both humans and chimpanzees are able to walk on two legs, but chimpanzees prefer to walk on four legs unless they need to see ahead. Furthermore, humans on the other hand, first learn how to crawl with their hands and knees before learning how to stand which also involves walking sideways, diagonal or moving in a rotating …show more content…
On the other hand, humans spend a comparable time socializing more through talking than grooming. The representation of this is that humans socialize by meeting up with friends, catching up with a cup of coffee and talking about how they have been. Humans also demonstrate stronger relationships through physical contact. The difference between humans and chimpanzees is that chimpanzees have about 50 close friends and acquaintances, whereas humans have between 150 and 200.
Hence, philosophy is not just about a deep expression of wonders nor the search for understanding, knowledge, beauty, meaning and purpose. Philosophy is composed of a variety of context allowing individuals to have a broader imagination of the world as it is a collective idea of principles and the existence of belief and the adjustment of right and
Philosophy – a subject that had driven people insane for as long as humans know their history. All the time people try to find a meaning, and later controvert it. For example, critics view a novel by Lewis Carroll Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, as a quest for maturity story, Carroll’s view on Victorian Society and even existential meaning on life. All of those interpretations come from philosophical “drive” of the critics. The truth is that anyone can point a finger at the book and come up with their own “deep” meaning of the story, but if one looks at facts, well known, and obvious things – it is clear that the story is simply a children tale intended for entertainment and nothing more.
In primates such as chimpanzees it is imperative to look at their culture to understand their intelligence. Culture in this circumstance means a specific set of behaviors obtained through learning in a population/species. Chimpanzee’s intelligence is quite unique how they interact with their environment and use it to their benefit just like humans. They have the ability to overcome the obstacles of everyday life through learning and the ability to use tools to create a better quality of life. The complexity of their intellect is different from any other animal ever seen. A significant part of chimpanzee intelligence that sets them apart from other primates and puts them closer to humans is the way they exhibit social learning within their culture and interactions within their environment.
All primates have the same sensation and are capable of receiving excessive amounts of information. All senses, sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch are essential to the development, survival, and overall well-being of living primates. It is fascinating how non-human primates, without language, can communicate in the same ways as human primates, with language. Non-human primates and human primates are highly developed mammals that possess many of the same communicative characteristics, but still differ greatly. Non-human primates fit into the category of not having language, but being able to communicate.
I am currently an English 160 student who is hoping to move on to the next course, which is English 161. I understand the requirements for English 161. It require students to explore a topic in some depth and conduct independent research related to that topic. Conducting research allows students to learn what it is like to participate in academic culture, posing questions about important issues and developing an argument in response to what others have said. It expected students to learn the most valuable skill in college, which is critical thinking. Students have to be able to read challenging readings. Although I still have problems with English, I think I’m qualified to move on.
According to National Geographic, scientists have sequenced the genome factor of the chimpanzee and found that humans are 98.5% similar to the ape species. The chimpanzee is our closest relative in the animal kingdom; however, some people are not aware of our resembling traits with chimpanzees. Jane Goodall’s, In the Shadow of Man, describes some similar traits humans and chimpanzees have such as their facial expressions and emotions, use of tools, and diet.
...that has to be more than just watching. That difference is the brain. For example, the chimpanzees brain is way larger than the human brain. Another difference between a chimpanzee and a human is the able to be in water. Most all humans like to be in water and can swim and chimpanzee are deeply terrified of the water and can not swim (Morris).
Philosophy is defined by Webster as "Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline" or "Investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge, or values, based on logical reasoning rather than empirical methods." This essay is a general look at those who pursued that intellectual means, those who investigated, even those who reasoned Reason. Because volumes could be written and this is a rather quick, unworthy paper: apologizes.
Chimpanzees (Figure 1) are the closest living relatives to us, and they share 99 percent of our DNA (1). Chimpanzees have distinct group territoriality. Male chimpanzees “patrol” near the boundary between the two ranges, at that time they move very carefully and quietly, and they can cease to listen and observe the range of their neighbors. Patrolling individuals are likely to face cruel and violent attacks, injuries, and even deaths. Intense excitement and aggressive display can occur if the two parties of two communities encounter each other. Usually, the larger group holds its ground, and interaction between different chimpanzees communities may also lead to gang attack. Expanding the community range is necessary to their social organizations, the males cooperation can defend the territory and increase the reproductive rates of the resident females by excluding female and male competitors. Body contact is common in their social life such as grooming (1). Usually, chimpanzees groom each other as a way to show harmony and solidarity in their society (Figure 2). Grooming each other demonstrates the deep bonds and close relationship between them. In addition, they can even hug, hold hands, touch, kiss each other as a way of emotional expression (2).

Webster defines philosophy as a critical study of fundamental beliefs and the grounds for them. In this philosophy, I will be talking about the three great philosophers: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. These three philosophers represent the birthplace of Western philosophy.
Philosophy is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and/or generally accepted certainties. Philosophy aims at knowledge that combines a variety of academic fields as well as convictions, prejudices and beliefs.
Philosophy is the science of science. Its subject matter is the complete range of scientific phenomena. Its aim is to connect all these into a consistently complete, to dive far into the truths underlying them and to set upon the first principles which shape the basis of scientific certainty. Hence philosophy is certainly drawn into the difficulty of ultimate realities like nature, mutual relation and origin. The word Vedanta is a combination of ‘Veda’ and ‘anta’ which means ‘Veda-end’.
The word “philosophy” is derived from two roots that are “philo” and “Sophia.” Philo means love whereas Sophia means wisdom. Therefore, philosophy means the love of wisdom. In actual practice, philosophy entails study of, pursuit, and enquiry into wisdom. A good number of great philosophers have referred to philosophy as the art of thinking. Others have only defined it as the systematic study of human feelings and thoughts.
Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
ABSTRACT: Philosophers cannot avoid addressing the question of whether philosophical anthropology (that is, specifically philosophical inquiry about human nature and human phenomenon) is possible. Any answer must be articulated in the context of the nature and function of philosophy. In other words, philosophical anthropology must be defined as an account of the nature of the subject of philosophical thinking. I argue that if philosophical thinkers admit that they are beings in nature, culture, and history, then the possibility of a uniquely philosophical theory of human nature and human phenomenon should be discarded. Rather, philosophy's catalytic and integrative role in human cognition should be stressed.
