The documents that are included in my portfolio are the response to one of the short stories in the 33rd and projects one/two. The short story that I chose to respond to was titled Words for Myself. I had to discuss the piece in terms of its problem-solving processes. Project one was a literacy narrative essay that describes the importance of my personal experiences and it also contain insights to the significance of my turning moment. Project two required a different approach in writing. It required analysis in addition to describing what I see as a significance and why it matters to the readers. I often find myself summarizing a huge piece of information instead of elaborating more on my own ideas. In my first project, I discussed about the different motivations for people to sacrifice themselves for others. One example that I included was about an American soldier who gave up his own life to save an Afghan girl from injury (Zheng October 17, 2016). A big chunk of my essay included the summary of the occurrence and it did not provide enough of my own insight on why it matters. I believe that my ideas could be improved if I trimmed the informative part and focused more on my analysis. Also, to explain in details why I think the soldier made the decision to save the girl. Through a whole quarter of ENGL 101, I cultivated the importance of depicting the bigger picture for the readers. I want my writings to be able to raise a bigger question. For this project, I explored the different ways how social support could alleviate a PTSD sufferers with their symptoms (November 22, 2016). In one of the examples, I talked about extreme cases of PTSD sufferers where they may potentially be thinking about giving up their lives. Instead of bringing up a specific research of a PTSD sufferer where I might end up summarizing the story, I chose elaborate on why certain sufferers might refused to seek for help and choose to end their lives. It is thought provoking because anyone can easily relate to this issue. Many of us still may not know about the difference friends and family can make if they let the sufferers know about their willingness to support. In addition to this portion of the argument, I focused my research on the statistics of how traumas related to sexual abuse may increase a person’s suicide risk because they are too shameful to seek for help. Therefore, I provided the evidence that my readers need to follow my train of thoughts. From here, I further elaborated on the importance of social
