Studying English was one of the most important and challenging tasks for me during the high school. Some of the teachers I meet were easy graders, however, others were very difficult. When I first came to the Drexel University, my language skills were not as good as they are today. The English 101 teacher helped me to improve my skills by showing the perspectives of learning and using English in everyday life. A few months later, by working hard on the major projects and informal writings, I have improved my writing and speaking skills. The English 101 class involved all students in working on the major projects. There were three major projects for this term. The first one I had to work on was a persuasive essay. It was about choosing the specific topic and persuading someone about something that must be accepted. “It was required to pass the course. I had to write something about how I persuaded my father to buy me a new Jeep Cherokee and sell the old Chrysler. To do this, I had to apply my current writing skills together and find the way to improve it”(___). By writing and checking this essay for any mistakes with the Drexel Writing Center, I have completely changed my attitude toward writing major projects. I started to follow the basic rules in order to avoid the further misspellings and loss of articles. Also, the first project helped me to be …show more content…
For the first project, I had to write a letter to my classmate about his or her project. “I wrote down my ideas and opinions about other student’s essay. Because I knew most of the English rules, I wanted to give my advice to the other students in order to avoid stupid mistakes for them in the future”(___). Due to the short class time, writing the informal essays increased my writing speed and improved my speaking skills too. The chance of giving advice to the other students about their projects helped me being certain about my English grade in the
This trimester I began the class English 101 with mixed feelings. Depending on the topic and style, I could really enjoy writing. However, there were occasionally times where I just did not feel much inspiration, and consequently, my writing quality was not exactly remarkable. My previous course to English 101 was AP Literature, where I learned how to analyze writing and write powerful papers. Although, to my disadvantage for this class, the teacher was more concerned about content than presentation and grammar technicalities. I learned to create good ideas and responses, and while I did possess the ability to convey them with proficiency, I could not express myself at a college level. Nonetheless, I can happily report that I have acquired these skills throughout English 101, learning to curb my near addiction to prepositional phrases, in addition to halting my use of coordinating conjunctions to begin sentences. I find it pleasing to read and compare my first essay to my latest one, seeing all of the differences and enhancements. My writing has improved through the trials of in-depth analyses and short deadlines, enabling me to perform my best no matter the style or topic. Overcoming the oppositions found in the class and my own
My progression as a writer has steadily improved over the past semester. Expanding sentence variety and experiencing in-class discussion has elevated my writing style to another level. I have learned how to successfully attack time management issues head on and how to research effectively. My ability to present information in a logical and organized fashion has reached new heights and my punctuation has become much better. I have improved upon areas that I was already competent in while addressing the weaker aspects of my writing. This class has been an invaluable learning experience that granted me many opportunities to become a masterful writer. One of those opportunities was the persuasive paper assignment.
...on, this course has taught me many different aspects to writing that I was unaware of in high school. This course has been incredibly fulfilling for me and has been nothing short of an amazing experience. I truly believe all of the things I have learned within this course, such as, writing proper thesis statements, proving my points within the body, discussing topics that critically engage my readers, the use of grammar, and many other essential skills will help me tremendously on my educational path. Although I have learned many skills as to writing a quality essay, I know there are many aspects to writing I can improve on, such as, expanding on my introductions and providing more background within my topics to the readers. I am extremely grateful for the various skills I have learned throughout this course, and I fully intend to utilize them all as I move forward.
When I first entered this class, I already knew that it wasn’t going to be easy just because I 'm not good with putting things into words and explaining myself with proper grammar. I can honestly say English 101 has really inspired me to be a better writer. This class affected me in a lot of ways it showed me that writing takes time and you can 't expect a paper to be great without any revising or editing. That has always been a mistake of mine, I would tend to free write a lot it seemed to be the only way I could get my thoughts processed on a paper. I would forget periods, commas and misspell words without even noticing. I never cared much for punctuation, but once I got into this class I knew it was much needed. The topics we wrote on were not just any random topics which in a way made it more interesting to write about things that are actually important and things our generation should be informed about.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
Overall, I believe that English 101 greatly impacted my writing performance for the better. With the help of multiple in class assignments and different styles of papers, I was able to fully broaden my writing skills and understanding. When I look back on this courses learning outcomes and course keywords, I feel as if I achieved a great number of them through the many writing assignments given to me. With a semesters worth of new found knowledge I was also able to reflect and revise one of my previous papers written in this course. If it was not for English 101, I feel my writing skills would be greatly set back.
The English classes that I have taken over the course of my years in school have always been greatly enjoyable. Fortunately, I've been lucky to have had amazing teachers, more than eager to aid me in improving my writing. I believe that as far as my writing skills, there is always room for improvement. There will always be another vocabulary word to learn, or a writing style to master. Although I am not necessarily striving for perfection (I don't dream of being the next Mark Twain or F. Scott Fitzgerald), improving my personal best is what I am invariably working towards. This year in English 101 has served as a very significant step in my writing journey. It gave me a push into the “bootcamp” of college writing, while still retaining certain aspects of writing that I find truly enjoyable.
Throughout English 101 I have matured as a writer and acquired skills that will prepare me for the next level of writing. I feel immersed in the information I have been taught and understand what it takes to be a good writer. I have revised my papers with the proper use of grammar and composed thought provoking essays. This class has helped me significantly by improving my writing into proper english papers. Without these learning skills it would be impractical for me to convey opinions and thoughts grammatically. In the beginning of the semester my writing was undeveloped which resulted in incomplete papers. I have learned how to successfully methodize and formulate my thoughts for each essay into an understandable format. This semester has
As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required.
The assignments given in English 101 were very interesting for me. I think that the course layout couldn’t have been better. There were a few assignments that I found interesting. In particular, I found the article by Malcolm Gladwell, “Offensive Play” to be really interesting. It was relatable to me because I used to play a lot of sports and now I invest a lot of time watching high contact sports such as football and it is intriguing to see the “behind the scenes” aspect of the game. However that being said, I did not really like writing the summary of this article. I found it difficul...
Taking English 101 at the University of Alabama was definitely a challenge. There were many instances when I struggled to get my assignments done well and on time, but on the other hand, there were also moments when I was not worried about my assignments. I intend on enrolling in more UA Early College classes while in high school, and after graduating, I plan on attending the University of Alabama. Taking English 101 will help me throughout the rest of high school, and I will have a head start when beginning college in a couple of years. I intend on majoring in Music Education and minoring in Spanish when I go to college at UA. I will be required to take an abundance of classes throughout those years, and taking English 101 now has prepared
I came into English 101, a little afraid of what it was going to be like and if my writing abilities were strong enough for me to take it. Once I started the semester though things got a lot easier and I was able to really enjoy writing. The terms on the PAR do not look as discouraging. I am able to put works of literature into a conversation now and find how they connect. I also know what lines of inquiry are and I am able to find them in others essays and put them into mine. I can also find passages from texts to support my statement. Overall, I believe that English 101 has made me a better writer and I think that I have improved tremendously in my writing skills since the first day of class.
Based on my past experiences with writing I have learned essential skills that have shaped and molded me into the kind of writer I am today. The primitive skills I learned in high school definitely proved helpful in taking the English 101 course. I know in high school you just have to answer the prompt to receive an A but in this course it requires you to go above just answering the prompt but showing that you have significant understanding of the text and that you are explicitly explain it. Taking the course has exceedingly given me great competence for future courses related to writing. Although, with taking writing courses in high school deem very different in college the basic components I learned in high school got me
In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would. In addition to, my strengths grew stronger and my weaknesses improved as well. I acknowledge I still have some techniques and skills to work on; however, I am willing to put the time in and cannot wait to take English in the future. Writing is an everlasting skill that will be an enormous asset to me; in addition to my future classes, and my career as
...larify the structure and destination in which I was headed. By revising my essays I was able to make the content and message seem more important and made the final drafts seem a slight degree better than the originals, but the finals were better nonetheless. The instructor did a very good job in guiding me and helping find my way into writing by focusing on some of the problems I was facing and clarified them so that I would better understand them. The instructor helped me expand on my grammatical by helping me discover what it was that I lacked while constructing basic sentence structure; the usage of commas and semi-colons, quotations, and how to sight titles of books and articles within an essay. This English 101 course I have attended has helped me develop better writing skills as well as helped me create more profound essays and a very satisfying research paper.
