Recommended: The study of sociology

With my personal experience with the class, I believe that it has been about learning different ways to gain info about the world around us. With this information, people gain knowledge of what they know and or maybe something new. Gaining information on certain topics does not only benefit individuals but it can give insight for an entire group of people. Learning these different methods of gaining information such as interviewing, surveys, ethnographies, etc. is not only valuable in sociological studies , but in other subjects. The information we know now when it comes to how people feel about, for example, Donald Trump, most likely came from surveys. This portfolio was a little review for me for this semester. There are methods and terms that I forgot we discussed and putting together this portfolio reminded me of them. So when I put together the portfolio, I did not necessarily learn something, but I was reminded of how much valuable information I gained with in the 16 week period. What my portfolio shows is that I know the importance of using methods to back up sociological findings and I believe that is a strength. If methods of backing up sociological findings were not important, then there would be no point of the class. This information about different methods is essential to certain careers and help in other career paths that do not deal with sociology head on. As for self-improvement, I can improve on some of the details of some of the methods. I may know what the method is but proving an example of what it is may be the difficult part. Details are very important because it helps you further understand what you are studying. Also, even though I am a very observant person, I believe I should have participated more. Participating in discussion helps you understand what is being talked about because you are engaged. This may not be for everyone, but I believe it helps. With engagement, if you reciting wrong information, fellow peers can help in giving clarity on why that is the wrong information and give you the information you need to

    I liked how you were able to change the status indicator of how well you knew the material on each question, that made it easier to score point and not lose as many when you got it wrong. I also liked that after getting five consecutive questions in a row right that it started giving you bonus points for it. Also if you got five wrong in a row that it would tell you to take a break and come back later after a certain amount of time so you could gather your thoughts a bit. All of the PowerPoints and mini games and quizzes located throughout each module really helped me and definitely broadened my understanding of everything throughout the semester. What lessons that I will take with me is that everything has a bigger meaning in the world.     For my assignment I have decided to choose a group which I have just finished taking for level 1 Hairdressing and they have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. This is within my current role as a hairdressing lecturer at Hugh Baird College which I have done since October. Within this group there are a couple of people who have support workers. There is one student within the group who has severe learning difficulties and is a more mature student. She also has many health problems which results in her having to carry an oxygen tank around for when she has any problems with her breathing due to her having problems with her heart. There is also another student in the class who has learning difficulties, she is very clever but just needs someone there for when she needs something explaining. She also has a support worker that comes in to give her support. This student has also been going through personal problems at home and has attendance issues. There is another student within this group who has severe dyslexia. She doesn’t have a support worker but the support people who are in there do give her help as she can have a tendency to give up, not to listen and just needs to be kept on track so by sitting next to a person that does have a support worker she gets the help from them. These three students have all had their level 1 qualification extended for a year were the rest of the group have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. Two of these students may progress on to level 2 but one doesn’t have the ability to be able to do this as the requirements are too high for her.
