As a primarily logical thinker, I find one of my most prominent weaknesses is not my lack of creativity, but my lack of creativity applied in a constructive manner. I find myself daydreaming of what I could do, but often times I am ripped away from my whimsical motivation once reality sets back in and I am once again faced with repetitive math problems or uninspired required readings. I believe, especially being in the field of computer science where this is quite evident, that knowledge is only useful when used for change, but change cannot come in such a developed world without originality and significantly creativity. From my primarily community driven essay I wrote about my high school, my community engagement project explained in the supplement section, and my dedication to community service activities and clubs at my current school, it shouldn’t be hard to see that I become dedicated to whatever community that I am a part of at the time. Having explored the Civic Engagement section of the UChicago website, I have much respect for the university's community and their dedication to the city-in-need in which they reside in. I do believe that Chicago has potential, but for positive results to be seen, people outside of the city must want change as well. Because I will be experiencing a wide range of core classes in addition to my major specific classes, if for some reason in the distant future I decide to switch careers, I will still be able to apply what I learned from UChicago in my everyday life. I personally would like to start my own company. In college, I would like to travel abroad, secure an internship and possibly work for a company for a few years to fund my own startup. I believe that I will only be happy if I am the leader of my own life, I am my own boss, and I can pursue my own interests. With a more widespread core education, I will be able to use what I learn more often in the process of starting my own company where I may have to do the work of multiple jobs on my own. UChicago also hosts an extensive internship program and study abroad program to assist me in my more immediate goals. Because of the unique approach to learning supported by UChicago along with the positive mentality of the community as well as ample opportunities to step out of my comfort zone, I feel as if UChicago is the school for me. The perfect place for my transition from a high schooler with big dreams to an adult who can finally act on their aspirations.
