I can apply a lot about what I learned in this class to my future classes at Wayne State and to my future career. To start off, I loved learning about how to work specifically in small groups. In college, a lot of professors like to have group projects to help us learn team work and to collaborate ideas. When I do these group projects, I can apply my new understanding of leadership to them to make the projects run smoother. Also, I learned the responsibilities of individuals in small groups. This will help me make sure that my fellow group members and I are all pulling our weight in the project. Another thing I learned in this class that will be important to my future is how to organize my ideas. I hope to continue onto graduate school for …show more content…
First off, I liked how I was able to stop recording my speech if I messed up and start over again. Even though this was time consuming if I messed up a lot, it took away some of the speech anxiety because I knew if I made too many mistakes, I could do it over again. I also liked how Dr. Rasmussen was able to give back feedback in my video; when she made a comment, I knew exactly where in my speech she was referring to because the comment popped up right on the video. If I made a speech in person and received feedback after I gave the speech, it would have been more difficult to pinpoint exactly what Dr. Rasmussen was referring to in her comments. Finally, I liked how I was able to learn the information on my own time; I could read and do the chapter reading assignments at my own pace. I enjoyed not having to sit through lectures like I would have had to in an in person class. Even though there are many things I liked about taking this class online, there are some things I missed out on my taking this online course. First of all, it really didn’t prepare me for the anxiety of giving a speech in person. I didn’t have an audience in front of me while giving the speech, which is not very realistic. Also, I did not get to practice being an audience member by taking this class online. I didn’t get to be an active listener, which is a big part of a public speaking class. Finally, my taking this class online, I missed
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. I will be using what I have learned in this class still three years from, it is kind of
I learned that I have a control issue and that my OCD gets in the way. I am not going to lie I contemplated several times about quitting online learning. I felt that I was not as smart as others are and when I would not get good feedback, I started to doubt my ability to go on. I am afraid to consult with my instructor for the fact of sounding less intelligent. When you got assignments that did not make sense that was because I was afraid to ask. What I enjoyed most about this class was getting a better understanding of what type of learner I am, and why I do the things I do. I never knew there was even a test that could tell you what type of learner you are. What I would change about this class is nothing. This class made you think about your learning. It did that plus some. My expectations were met because this class had a purpose to show each of us what kind of learners we are. It changed my mindset and it met my expectations
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
During the early years, children go through crucial development stages, and continuous, quality early childhood education can have a lasting, valuable effect on the overall development of children. High-quality early childhood development programs that offer developmentally adequate curricula, allow children to formulate specified cognitive skills at the suitable age. Developmentally adequate curricula assist in the development of cognitive skills which help them acquire new skills and knowledge. Preschool provides children the opportunities to take part in activities they wouldn’t typically do at home such as arts and crafts, science activities, sand and water play and music and movement. These activities can enhance children's’ lives, increase their development and supply them with the tools they need for the future.
Through this semester, I have learned a lot of writing skills and techniques. The learning process of this course is not smooth, there are many difficulties and issues I have meet during this semester. However, in the meantime I also revived many benefits from this course. I think the skills and techniques I learned from this course not only make me able to pass this class, but also is valued for my future academic journey.
At the beginning of the semester my outlook on this course was not so good. I was not looking forward to giving speeches or learning things that seemed like common sense, but as time went on I could tell that I was actually taking things away from it. I have learned that I am not so good at coming up with things to say under pressure and I get extremely nervous when I have to talk in front of people that I don’t know well. Oh wait, I already knew those things. This class has motivated me to strengthen my social skills and has also taught me how to effectively work in a team environment through the team communication consultant project. I will show this by analyzing my teams strategic plan, the cohesiveness of the team, and the productivity of the team.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
There are many ways I can apply what I learned in this class to other courses. My new study skills can help me to do better on tests. My new test taking skills I learned can also help me to do better on tests. I study better and I can apply that to making better grades. I have better listening skills that I can use to learn in my future courses. The papers I had to write developed my writing skills so that now I can write better papers. The information literacy project we did can help
The class helped me learn how to overcome fear of public speaking which was brought about by anxiety and fear which was mainly contributed by lack of exposure. During this class I learned many ways of overcoming this menace, the class groups that served as the audience helped in practicing and getting over the anxiety and fear I also got positive critic...
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. The students see the results of these seeds planted under these conditions for the past week. Two plants in particular have already been grown their growth has been
I learned about how to conduct academic research in a productive way. This program also taught me how to identify credible resources and use academic search engines that I wouldn’t have used prior to this class. Also the worksheets that were passed out to help organize our researched and conduct a wider range of research was extremely helpful and a tool that I will continue to use throughout college. Similar to other discourse classes peer view and discussion was a key factor to success. Peer review in this course helped a lot with my speeches and papers because it gave me opinions from other students and my professor that I wouldn’t necessarily have came up with myself. It also helped me generate a better argument through topic proposals and peer interactions that pushed me to dig a little deeper for better research on my community. I also believe that the speeches assigned in this course allowed for me to increase my public speaking skills and learn to communicate in certain types of discourse at appropriate
