Education is highly underestimated in the Lord’s church. We rarely invest much thought into our teaching. Our idea of a Bible class is reading the text of a book or answering true or false on a copy and pasted worksheet. It is no wonder that the modern church has members that are biblically illiterate. The prophet Hosea condemned the northern kingdom for their lack of knowledge and it is likely he would say the same thing today (Hos. 4:6). This is especially shameful for us since the church is intended to be the pillar and the foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15). The solution to our lack of proper education is not easy. It requires an overhaul in the culture of the church. Yet, in order for the church to survive, this overhaul must take …show more content…
People will only do as well as they are taught; therefore, it is my goal to make sure that they are taught appropriately. The three aspects of learning (teacher’s triad) will be a major part of my teaching and preaching. When I prepare my Bible class notes or a sermon outline, I strive to engage all three sides of that triad. I want my audience to consider what is being said, to value it, and to act upon it. I also attempt to encourage discovery learning. I have learned from personal experience that providing the answers for people is not education; rather, it is me talking to a mirror. Discussion should be encouraged and discovery learning accomplishes that. People need to see for themselves why some things are. Teachers cannot just hand over the answers if they expect results. Ultimately, my goal is for people to acquire the information and retain it. I do not want them to forget it as soon as the closing song is over. The culmination of my educational efforts rests in Jesus’ example. If I am not trying my best to emulate His teaching style, then I cannot be effective in my teaching. The goal for every Christian is to conform to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). This is double for teachers because of our greater responsibility. God expects people who teach His word to do it properly. Since Jesus is the perfect example in every aspect of life, I want to reflect Him in my
Paul’s purpose in writing this book is to teach against the false teaching’s being taught there.
Humanity is made in the image of God. Therefore, all people have unique and valuable gifts to contribute to society. Every individual is also a sinner in need of redemption through Christ’s death and resurrection. Developing a relationship with Christ is the foundational purpose of my Christian educational practice. Instruction must be differentiated because each student is a unique creation. Effective differentiation is impossible without the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the use of research-based instructional methods and formative evaluation. Powerful teaching constantly modifies instruction to best address the needs of the each student and provides a foundation of love that recognizes each child as a gift from God.

Timothy George begins his chapter on doctrinal preaching by exposing various misconceptions concerning doctrinal preaching. George states, “the recovery of doctrinal preaching is essential to the renewal of the church” (93). The credibility of the church, according to George, can only be restored through a fresh proclamation of the word of God. Therefore, George first examines the presuppositions of doctrinal preaching. Preaching is not rooted in the feelings of the congregations, but instead the church has historically believed that God has spoken and the word of God continues to speak to us concerning, “law and gospel, promise and fulfillment, judgment and grace” (94-95). Doctrine cannot be divorced from God’s saving reality and his divine

The Bible student, laymen, or pastor will find the principles presented by Fee and Stuart helpful despite the weaknesses presented. The author’s contribution on how to interpret each of the different genres is especially beneficial. The Bible Student will have more knowledge of how to interpret God’s Word when finished with the work. Fee and Stuart achieve their goal helping the reader not only with interpretation, but with application.
In conclusion, teachers who share their worldview with their students and encourage them to also expand and develop their own biblical worldview are giving their students a whole integrated education. The hope of a teacher should be that what their students learn will carry them through life by always seeing everything through the lens of God’s
Teaching and teachers have been around for a long time. In the Old Testament, the instruction was provided by the scribes. Even though we don’t have an in-depth description of teaching techniques, we do have an idea that the usual method was rote memory. The teacher’s role was to communicate the message and the hearer was to recite that same message back to the teacher. Teaching then moved to another phase – this next phase was to arouse the listener’s aptitude by presenting problems and to cultivate the students use of his powers by demanding that he exercise those powers. This background just mentioned was to help us understand the Old Testament teaching, which laid the groundwork for the ultimate teacher – Jesus the Christ.
(Larry and Sue Richaards, 2011)” With this verse I think that everyone is created unique by God and had different learning capabilities and styles. For if we were created equal there would not be diverse spiritual gifts or even different eye colors. I also think that to truly incorporate a Christian worldview a teacher must be strive to be like Jesus in possess the Fruits of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit are “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23. As a teacher, I have numerous personal goals. Mainly, my goal is to provide students with the opportunity and encouragement to succeed in life and to develop as free-thinking individuals in society. I consider myself a progressive and an essentialist, according to theory. I feel that students need to be given multiple opportunities to explore many different life skills that sometimes are overlooked in the education system. Testing, rote memorization, and lecture, in my opinion, do not promote students' own inquiry and does not give students opportunities to tap into their own source of knowledge that they each bring with them to the classroom. As a teacher, I hope to leave my students able to set and accomplish goals through the use of these life skills. Some teachers I have had while in hi...
Upon being faced with the task of writing my philosophy of teaching, I made many attempts to narrow the basis for my philosophy down to one or two simple ideas. However, I quickly came to the realization that my personal teaching philosophy stems from many other ideas, philosophies, and personal experiences. I then concentrated my efforts on finding the strongest points of my personal beliefs about teaching and what I have learned this semester, and came up with the following.
... generally accepted that a teacher’s main role is to facilitate learning rather than to be the source of all knowledge” (p.2).
... to interchange ideas and clarify doubts or issues I have. I have to contain myself for doing the most of the speaking in some of the classes, overcome laziness to analyze how well or bad an activity or class turned out and think of better ways to do things when they did not work as I thought they will . To conclude I am aware that the only responsible of my learning is me. “Teacher training or education is something that can be managed by others; Teacher development is something that can be done only by and for oneself” Wallace, 1991.
