Reading is one of my favorite things to do, but finding a good book can be hard. There are so many genres of books. People favor certain books over others. Everyone has their reason for reading. Some prefer to read only for educational purposes others for entertainment. In my personal preference, I prefer reading for entertainment. There are so many books and every book has something different about it. The author could change the point of view, could create a new environment, or the way it was written. While reading the book, I want it to seem as if I am in the location of the book. In the first chapter, I should already have an idea of what environment I am in. The first chapter is the big opening for the rest of the book; it should make me wonder about the rest of the book. For example when you go watch some sort of show they play music and have this big opening act to grab your attention and get you excited for the rest of the show. Same for a book; if the beginning is good, it sets up the whole book to be good. The plot is important. It is probably one of the major factors of choosing a book. The plot is the …show more content…
This is an excellent example of what I am looking in a book specifically. In this book it creates a magical world that you cannot experience in real life. It is so descriptive of the environment that you can imagine it. Along with imagining the environment I could also imagine the characters. The author does a fantastic job of making the characters real, from their appearance to their attitude. At the end of the series I am left with many characters, but it does not feel overwhelmed. Each of the characters have a purpose in the plot. The author introduces them in an event or something that adds on to the story. The series itself is pretty long, but it does not seem like it is. J.K Rowling, the author, makes sure each book is filled with an event that will add on to the story and make you wonder
Before the book even begins there is a page which really helps to set the tone for the book. It also helps the reader to better understand the pages ahead.
My parents have always stressed the importance of reading. Throughout my whole life, they have motivated me to read and they have encouraged me to find books that I find interesting to read. Because of their encouragement, I am an avid reader today. When I was a child, just starting to enjoy reading I liked to read books that were fiction. Some of my favorite books to read as a child are series that I still love today and I think I still have every book in each series stored in my attic. They are The Boxcar Children, Junie B. Jones, and The Magic Tree House.
It’s important for a writer to gain the reader’s attention in the first chapters in a story and
When you read, especially fiction, you experience a broad sweep of human life. You gain access to the thoughts of others, look at history through another person’s eyes and learn from their mistakes, something that you otherwise would not be able to experience.
Otto, likewise, begins her novel with instructions; "You need a large wooden frame and enough space to accommodate it" (7). Even though these authors begin their stories by jumping into the plot, the authors do provide sufficient background to remove much of the abruptness. The prologues and introductions found in the books explain what is ahead in the plot; much the same way previews and commercials explain the direction of the plot in the television show and movie. The reader and viewer can anticipate the plot and its direction, making the first line a necessary bridge into the story ahead.
Plot is the major events and decisions that make up a story. In the very last sentence of the Uglies Tally says, “‘I’m Tally Youngblood,’ she said. ‘Make me pretty’” (Westerfeld 406). Because the author developed the plot throughout the story we are able to understand why Tally would make this decision. After all that she has done to stay away from the operation she has to resile to save her friend Shay. Likewise, in the second stanza of the poem “If” Rudyard Kipling states, “If you can dream- and not make dreams your master; If you can think- and not make thoughts your aim” (Kipling lines 9 and 10). This father is trying to show his son how to be a man. This shows how the boy has to be tough enough to do things without letting the things he does control him. Both of these texts show how through the development of plot resilience will be needed to overcome obstacles and ultimately become the person you want to be. In conclusion, the plot of a text helps readers to better understand characters actions and
Joanne Rowling, better known as JK Rowling to her millions of fans worldwide, became famous off of her Harry Potter books. Many authors have tried to achieve the success she has, but none have come close. “When Rowling brought Harry Potter and his friends to life, she created a world in which children of all ages found themselves immersed…”(Andrews). By creating new words and including intriguing creatures in Harry Potter JK Rowling establishes an exciting world that helps engage her readers. It is truly these things that have set her work to a new level.
While reading the story of what Simon had to endure and the story that troubled his conscience for the rest of his life makes the reader stand in his shoes. The most significant part of the book is after the entire story is told and the reader
Fans of the novel found that the way the novel is written, you never want to put it down and the action keeps things moving and is quite entertaining. The novel pulls you in and makes you love each of the main characters in it. This is a great series for anyone to read, and it is audience friendly for whoever reads them. There is quite a bit of suspense that will make the novel exceed readers 's expectations, and the twists and turns keeps you guessing and lets nothing be predictable. Some like the way this group of people bands together when they really need to and keep things together so they can all stop the
Ever since I was a child, I've never liked reading. Every time I was told to read, I would just sleep or do something else instead. In "A Love Affair with Books" by Bernadete Piassa tells a story about her passion for reading books. Piassa demonstrates how reading books has influenced her life. Reading her story has given me a different perspective on books. It has showed me that not only are they words written on paper, they are also feelings and expressions.
The novels keeps everyone on the edge of their seats waiting to see what will happen next. They are exciting, action packed books, that allow the audience to leave behind the headache of everyday life, even for just a few minutes a day.
Reading a book is in many ways the same as exercising the muscles in your arm, as you are feeding your brain new information and ideas of life. Life is short and I believe that you should always be positive and do the things that you want without people telling you that you are wrong. The following Novels have taught me various aspects, which I have and still am using to make my life a memorable one as well as a positive one.
The opening chapter has to be effective in order to keep the reader interested and to keep them reading. The style of the writer and novel also need to be established and tailored to suit the tastes of anyone that decides to read this novel.
I read because it brings me pleasure and because I never want to stop learning. Recently I have been reading a lot of multicultural women's literature and Victorian medical textbooks.
As I mentioned earlier all my experience with books and reading were not bad. I was in middle school when I read two books that I really captivated my attention. One was a biography of Harriet Tubman and the story of the Underground Railroad. I admired Harriet Tubman for her selfness and dedication to freeing slaves.
