Ray Bradbury’s overall purpose for creating Fahrenheit 451 is to tell us the challenges of what has to do in his journey. Montag’s journey is actually the author’s social commentary on the negative aspects of the 1950s. His examples of technology and violence can be connected to the theme of social commentary. Going through this book, you, as a reader, will see different examples of censorship and technology. One example is using Seashells or what we call Earbuds. Montag’s wife, Mildred, loves to use Seashells every time she doesn 't watch the parlor walls. Ray Bradbury compares Mildred to us on how we look in the society. The parlor walls are the society 's tvs. These tvs are the government 's ways of stopping people from reading books. An example from the book is when, after Captain Beatty goes to Montag 's home to exhort him to stop being curious about books, Montag sees Mildred in the middle of their living room watching and talking to the parlor wall. “Montag turned and looked at his wife, who sat in the middle of the parlor talking to her. “Mrs. Montag,” he was saying. this, that, and the other. “Mrs.Montag-” Something else and still another. the converter attachment, which had cost them one hundred dollars, automatically supplied her name whenever the announcer addressed his anonymous audience, leaving a blank where the proper syllables could be filled in. One of the technology that Montag has to face in his journey is the Hound. Whenever Montag sees the Hound; he become very trepidatious. The Hound is very lethal and this makes it very celebrated by many people but also makes people crave when going against it. When Montag enters the Approach, he acknowledges that he has to face the Hound and Captain Beatty. The books tells us that after he knocks out the other fireman houses, he hears, “The blowing of a autumn leaf” (Ray Bradbury 120).This explains how Montag hears the Hound move from place to place. He also tells us that, “ He turned and the Mechanical Hound was there. It was half across the lawn, coming from the shadows, moving with such drifting ease that it was like a single cloud of dark-gray smoke blown at him in silence.” (Ray Bradbury 120). Right here tells us how Montag sees the Hound move and now has to valiantly have to battle him to come escape the city. This also shows how Bradbury uses the Hound as the symbol of what the government can control the technology that gets put out. Just how our government does. As a result, Bradbury is telling us that we shouldn’t let them do
